Convocation 2026! As we celebrated the incoming class of 2030, we also celebrated three Psychology seniors. Libby Adams, addressed the graduating class as Student Government President, Caleb Wofford, carried the Psychology flag, and Isabella Fantauzzi, carried the Philosophy flag. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Shauna Bowes to the Psychology Department! 🎉

Dr. Bowes joins Furman as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Her research explores how people form and engage with their beliefs and identities, with a focus on intellectual humility, misinformation, polarization, and open-mindedness.

This year, she will teach courses in Social Psychology, Personality, Psychology of Misinformation, and Research Methods.

Outside of work, Dr. Bowes enjoys traveling, coffee and tea, reality TV, cooking and baking, spending time outdoors, reading, all things dog-related, and time with her husband and daughter.

We were thrilled to welcome Furman University Alumni Dallas Shuman ’25 back for the 19th Annual Psychology and Neuroscience Summer Research Conference!

It wasn’t that long ago that Dallas was on the other side of the event as a student presenter (from Dr. Flores's Lab). In fact, she participated in the Summer Research Conference three years in a row as a neuroscience major. Now, she’s preparing to head to graduate school this fall!

We were delighted that Lynn Nanney Roosevelt was able to join us for the 19th Annual Psychology and Neuroscience Summer Research Conference.

Lynn is the daughter of the late Lib Nanney, beloved Furman Psychology administrative assistant, and the late Dr. Ray Nanney, founder of Furman’s Computer Science Department and professor of chemistry and computer science.

Furman Psychology alumni always enjoy sharing “Lib Nanney stories.” Her generosity to students was truly legendary and remains a treasured part of the department’s history.
