We are so proud of you Dr. Farmer!

More than 1 in 4 Black dentists in America are Meharry graduates. And the Black woman running that dental school just stepped into a 103-year-old space no Black woman has ever occupied before.

Dr. Cherae Farmer-Dixon is the first Black woman to chair the Board of Directors of the American Dental Education Association. In that role, she'll help lead the organization that influences how future dentists are educated and trained across the country.

And she's Meharry through and through. Dr. Farmer-Dixon earned her own dental degree there and now serves as dean of the same dental school that's been training Black dentists since 1886.

More than a century after Meharry started opening doors for Black dentists, one of its own now has a hand in shaping what's next for dental education nationwide.

We see you Sis!

From Nashville to Maryland and Naples, Italy, Jewet Stefanos’ journey has taken her across the world and now back to where her family’s Meharry legacy began.

Inspired by her father, a Meharry Medical College graduate and orthodontist who came to the United States as a refugee, Stefanos witnessed how education, perseverance and service could transform lives.

At Penn State, she began creating her own path. As vice president of the university’s Operation Smile organization, Stefanos helped lead fundraising efforts that supported three cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for children.

“We’re just some random kids who wanted to change someone’s life,” Stefanos said.

When she receives her first white coat, Stefanos will begin a new chapter rooted in the responsibility of caring for others. She will honor the legacy that came before her while taking the first step toward building one of her own.

Join us in celebrating Stefanos and Meharry’s newest students by watching the White Coat Ceremonies livestream on August 14, 2026.

Together, reunion classes raised more than $1.4 million in support of scholarships, student opportunities and Meharry’s mission to advance health equity.

Celebrating classes contributing to the reunion fundraising total included the Classes of 1941, 1951, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021.

As we honor our past, we remain focused on the future through Campaign 150: Forever on the Path.
