Congratulations to Madison Kelly, recipient of this year’s Nina Collins Research Award! Madison worked in a research lab with faculty mentor, Dr. Rachel Vollmer, to examine how food insecurity impacts college students with disabilities.

This award recognizes a senior who has demonstrated excellence in research. Named in honor of Dr. Nina Collins — longtime department chair and a passionate advocate for student research — the award celebrates her lasting impact and commitment to scholarly achievement.

As part of her community-based practicum with local nonprofit Peoria Grown, Nutrition and Dietetics student, Alayna Schlipman inspired kids to get excited about healthy eating through hands-on cooking and nutrition education classes! From building kitchen confidence to learning lifelong nutrition habits, Alayna is helping make nutrition fun, accessible, and empowering for the next generation.

Congratulations to our graduating Arnold/Wheeler Scholars, Sophia Caprio and Madison Moore! Both students worked hard over the last 4 years to design and conduct their own research study under the mentorship of an FCS faculty member. Next stop: publishing results in a peer-reviewed journal!

Kappa Omicron Nu, the FCS honor society, collected hygiene items to make them free for Bradley students as part of their national program. They created visually appealing packaging to reduce the stigma of free items.
