We’re wrapping up American Archives Month with a look back at campus voting in 1976!

This photo captures two Bobcats casting their ballots just five years after the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18! It would be another 11 years before Texas officially adopted early voting statewide.

Election Day is right around the corner on Tuesday, November 3. San Marcos campus voting will be available at the LBJ Student Center: https://studentinvolvement.txst.edu/vote.html/

The spirit of ‘76! Texas State students have been racing down hills on campus in the Soapbox Derby since its inception in 1967.

The Derby is a beloved Homecoming tradition in which students build and race homemade cars. These recently discovered photos from the 1976 Homecoming and Soapbox Derby will soon be added to the University Photograph and Negative Collection, but here’s a sneak peak!

The 2026 Homecoming Soapbox Derby will be this Friday, October 23 at 2pm at the West Sports Field here on campus.

Stop by the race tomorrow and check out the University Libraries Digital Collections: https://dc.library.txstate.edu/search?search_api_fulltext=&f%5B1%5D=member_of%253A189&f%5B0%5D=member_of%253A8999

Talk about a professor with an impressive resume!

In the early '90s, comedian Larry Hovis left Hollywood to return to his Texas roots and become a professor at Texas State (then SWT).

This recently discovered image depicts Hovis instructing Bobcats about TV and film acting, informed by his long stint as “Carter” on Hogan’s Heroes and as a writer for Laugh-In.

Happy Throwback Thursday!

The seasons are changing here in Texas! The heat is finally bearable, and naturally everyone is thinking about... frisbee!

Here are some Bobcats tossing a disc back in 1976. Speaking of frisbee, this weekend TXST’s Men's and Women’s Club Ultimate Frisbee teams are travelling to UT Dallas for their first tournaments of the 2026-27 season!
