C&IS was proud to welcome leaders and colleagues from across disciplines for the Health Communication & Information Summit, led by Dr. Rebecca Ivic and anchored in the Journal of Health Communication and the Nature Portfolio Commission on Quality Health Information for All.

Hosted over multiple days across Bryant Conference Center, Reese Phifer, and The University Club, the summit created space for thoughtful conversations around the evolving landscape of health communication, information, and collaboration across sectors.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us, shared ideas, and helped shape meaningful conversations that will continue well beyond the summit itself. Thank you as well to our faculty, staff, students, and ambassadors who helped make the experience so welcoming for our guests.

Thanks to the generosity of our C&IS community, we raised $10,000 in support of C&IS Ambassadors during ! 🌷

These contributions help fund retreats, meetings and events while also helping ambassadors professionally represent the University through updated apparel and resources.

Not only did we exceed last year’s donor total, but C&IS also secured the highest number of donors among all colleges during the campaign.

A special thank you to Dean Brian Butler, Bryant Bank and the C&IS Board of Visitors for their generous matching gifts throughout the campaign.

C&IS alum Rece Davis (’88) was recognized as the 2026 Distinguished American Sportsman at the State of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame’s 58th Annual Induction Banquet and Ceremony.

A mainstay at ESPN for more than 25 years, Rece is one of the sports industry’s most respected hosts and currently serves as host of College GameDay.

Rece has been recognized by C&IS several times throughout his career, including being named an Outstanding Alumnus in 2001 and inducted into the C&IS Hall of Fame in 2018.

As Rece receives one of Alabama’s highest sports honors, his career remains a point of pride for the College and a testament to the impact C&IS alumni continue to make on the national stage.

Congratulations to Lexi McMahon, coordinator of recruitment and outreach for the Tisch Student Services and Engagement Team, on graduating from Leadership Tuscaloosa!

Leadership Tuscaloosa is a nine-month program designed to develop informed, effective leaders committed to serving and strengthening the Tuscaloosa community. Participants gain deeper insight into the area’s economic, social, historical and political landscape while building relationships that support meaningful community impact.

Reflecting on the experience, Lexi shared: “Leadership Tuscaloosa reminded me that everyone has the ability to lead in their own way, and it challenged me to step more confidently into my purpose.”

She added that the program reignited her passion for service and reminded her why community matters so deeply.

CAR Show 2026 was a success! 🙌

This year’s showcase featured 25 students presenting 19 unique projects, mentored by 17 C&IS faculty and staff and supported by 11 student coaches. More than 200 members of the C&IS community attended, connecting with our students and learning about their scholarship.

The 2026 Alabama Summit on Sports and Gaming, hosted by the Beyond Sports Initiative, brought together leading scholars and industry practitioners to explore the rapidly evolving world of sports and gaming.

Led by Dr. Andrew Billings, this year’s keynote featured a fireside chat with Mark Shapiro, President and Chief Operating Officer of TKO Group Holdings (home of WWE and UFC). Together, they explored leadership, innovation, and the shifting global sports and media landscape.

Through panel discussions, the summit examined key topics from sports media literacy and esports and video gaming to fantasy sports and sports betting, sparking conversation around the forces shaping the industry’s future.
