Cheatham, associate professor in the School of Social Work, who has been named the recipient of the Lahoma Adams Buford Endowed Peace Award for 2026! 👏 The Buford Peace Award is a prestigious universitywide honor presented annually by the School of Social Work during its award ceremony at the end of each academic year. This honor is bestowed on a faculty member who demonstrates exceptional levels of involvement in mediating human disputes, helping overcome prejudice, promoting justice and establishing peace through their teaching, research, professional practice and personal life.

Congrats & to five UA students and one alumnus who have been selected for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program! 👏 This program supports fellowships for outstanding graduate students who are pursuing full-time, research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering or math, including STEM education.

The Reserve Officers' Training Corps, or ROTC, is the undergraduate path to becoming a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, United States Air Force or United States Space Force. Have you heard of the Alabama REACH program? This group provides a community of support for students facing unique challenges - typically those who are orphaned, entering college from a kinship/guardianship or foster care situation, or experiencing homelessness.

The Alabama REACH program helps these students by providing financial, academic and social support in the form of a robust peer network. This support, in turn, drives outcomes for students: While the typical graduation rate for this demographic is 2-3% nationwide, REACH posts a whopping 55% 👏

Housed within Styslinger College of Engineering, The Cube complements classroom learning with real-world experience. It provides students, faculty & staff - along with members of the broader Alabama community - access to tools and guidance to design, prototype and build projects for class, research and entrepreneurial efforts.
