The School of Education Goes PINK!

On October 22, 2026, Dean Burks, along with School of Education faculty, staff, and students, proudly came together to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Dressed in shades of pink, we took time to raise awareness, show support for those impacted by breast cancer, honor survivors, and remember those we have lost.

Our message is simple but powerful: Awareness matters. Early detection saves lives. Together, we can make a difference!

At the School of Education, we believe in the power of education, compassion, and community. We proudly stand together in the fight against breast cancer.

THE MAGIC OF TUSKEGEE: FALL OPEN HOUSE 2026!

Magic was in the air at Tuskegee University as nearly 2,000 prospective students and their families experienced a weekend filled with tradition, excitement, and Golden Tiger pride!

Dean Burks, the School of Education Ambassadors, faculty, and staff enjoyed a magical weekend beginning with Friday evening’s Board of Trustees Mixer, followed by Saturday’s Open House student panel, live engagement activities in Chappie James, a parade on the Avenue, a Golden Tiger football victory, and more!

The School of Education welcomed enthusiastic students and families from as far away as Los Angeles, California, and as close as our local high schools. Visitors explored exciting opportunities in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Sport Management.

From meaningful conversations to unforgettable experiences, the weekend reminded us that the real magic of Tuskegee lies in its people, possibilities, and proud legacy of excellence!

It’s a great day in the School of Education when one of our graduates returns to pour into the next generation of educators!

We were delighted to welcome Spring 2026 graduate Kimbriele Sayles back to share her experience with our undergraduate education majors and talk about her journey with the Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR) program.

Kimbriele joined Spring 2025 School of Education graduates Haliah Stargell and Deamber Louder as MTR members. This summer, two of our upcoming graduates, Allison Bowen and Adriyana Gochett, also spent four weeks in Memphis participating in summer experiences with MTR.

Our students and graduates were eager to share what they learned and to encourage our undergraduate education majors to seek meaningful summer opportunities of their own.

In support of President Brown’s mission that every University student participate in a field experience and/or summer internship, Dean Burks has set the bar high for our future educators. Students are encouraged to secure a meaningful summer experience that may stand in lieu of the required five-day pre-internship that precedes their internship experience.

These opportunities allow our students to step beyond the classroom, gain valuable real-world experience, build professional relationships, and prepare for the important work of educating the next generation.

We are proud of our students, proud of our graduates, and especially proud to see them return to encourage those coming behind them!

Student-athletes are in a special class of their own as they balance the demands of academics and athletics, striving to be the very best they can be throughout their college journey.

In the School of Education, we are especially proud of our student-athletes majoring in Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Sport Management. Their commitment in the classroom and on the field reflects discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and a dedication to excellence.

Today, we are especially thrilled to congratulate our football student-athletes and the entire football team on their recent victory over Fort Valley State University in the Port City Classic!

Congratulations to our players, coaches, and the entire team on a job well done. We celebrate your hard work and are proud of the way you represent your university, your academic programs, and the School of Education.

The SOE kicked off the school term with a strong Assessment Workshop!

With a great group in attendance, our students asked thoughtful questions and helped create meaningful conversation around key benchmarks, including the English Proficiency Exam, Praxis, Foundations of Reading, and edTPA.

We are excited to see this group of future educators continue reaching their milestones and moving confidently toward success. The work has begun, and the momentum is strong.

Assessment workshops will be held the first Wednesday of each month from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.

Tuskegee University is expanding its academic offerings with the launch of four new programs this fall, reinforcing the institution's commitment to innovation, global workforce development, and student success in the careers of their choice. The new offerings include a Ph.D. in Information Systems and Computer Security, a Ph.D. in Integrative Health and Behavioral Sciences, a Minor in Nuclear Engineering, and a new Sport Management concentration.

The additions reflect the University's strategic focus on preparing students for high-demand careers in technology, healthcare, engineering, and the sport industry while addressing emerging national and global workforce needs. Tuskegee University STEM Day on the Montgomery Riverfront was a great day of learning, literacy, and community.

The School of Education was proud to be present with the Book Mobile, promoting STEM through literacy and placing hundreds of books into the hands of children and families.

This work is part of the extension of the ASAP Grant and reflects the power of partnership with the Macon County Children’s Policy Council and the Macon County Board of Education.

Families also had the opportunity to sign up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, while Dean Burks sparked curiosity with an engaging science experiment for young, inquiring minds.
