Dr. Bechtel led another successful May Term Trip to Peru and for these Education Majors it was beyond special. (Riley Meyer, Kaydn Meyer, Angela Bettess, Kylie Buchholz)
The Course is Amazonian Ecology & Culture II. I total of 20 Wartburg Students (Group total 24) packed very minimally and headed to the Amazon.
They spent time in the trees, watching beautiful skies, playing soccer with local school kids, dancing, researching, learning Peruvian culture, seeing the wildlife, and so much more.

When did Learning last feel real?
Iowa 2025 Teacher of the Year, Melanie Bloom, was on campus today and that is how she started her presentation.
Why did it feel real? She said -"Probably because it was Authentic, it had Relevance and Purpose and Involved people." She was so well spoken and inspiring! Our Education majors all listened as she revealed "her" story as an educator and encouraged each of them to tell "their" stories when they become teachers.
Bloom is a 16-year agriculture educator at Sioux Central CSD. She has a strong farming background and says that all teachers are similar because we are all educating future consumers.
Bloom said, "it just takes one question, one moment, one look for a teacher to change a life."
She believes in a Growth Mindset - learning from mistakes/failures and promotes the importance of Career-Connected Learning (CCL).
Bloom said Teaching is Challenging, it is Meaningful, and it Matters!
Advice from Bloom for our grads joining the workforce this fall, "Just survive your first year! Use the summer to recover and reinvent."
We thank Mrs. Bloom for her visit and for her truly inspiring program. Experiencing More in May at Wartburg College!

Congratulations, Dr. Snyder.
