Motheo TVET College

Motheo TVET College Vocational Training Motheo TVET College is one of the four public TVET Colleges in the Free State, serving the Motheo and Xhariep Districts.

The College comprised of six Campuses: Bloemfontein Campus, Hillside View Campus, Thaba Nchu Campus, Botshabelo Campus, Koffiefontein Campus & Zastron Campus, Central Office, Centre for Entrepreneurship & Rapid Incubator, Artisan Academy and Plot 32. The College offers career education to students:
- who because of their aptitude and interest, choose career education after Grade 9;
- students

who wish to study in a career direction after Grade 12 in either Engineering Studies, Business Studies or General Studies (Art and Design, Hair Care and Beauty Technology, Hospitality and Tourism); and
- adult employees who wish to follow in-service training courses which are geared towards specific aspects of their jobs.

Motheo TVET College recently hosted a successful three-day SRC Capacity Building Programme at Imvelo Safari under the theme “Transformative Leadership and Vision.”

The programme aimed to empower Student Representative Council (SRC) members with leadership skills, knowledge, and strategies to effectively serve and represent students across the College.

The capacity-building programme brought together various stakeholders and partners who contributed valuable presentations and engagements throughout the event. The College extends its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who participated and supported this important initiative.
Among the key contributors were Nedbankofficials, who delivered an insightful presentation on financial literacy, equipping student leaders with essential financial management knowledge. NSFAS was represented by Mr Meqe, who provided important guidance and updates regarding student funding and support services.
The Regional Office of the DHET represented by Mr Vele, delivered a presentation on Occupational Programmes, while Mrs Molaudzi shared a powerful message of support and encouragement to the SRC leadership. The programme also featured engagements from cosacsa.org.za⁠� officials, who highlighted the role of student leadership within the TVET sector.

Additional sessions included presentations by Mr Shopane on the College registration process, Mr Phanya on accountability and leadership responsibility, as well as discussions on student accommodation and the role of the SRC in ensuring student welfare within residences.

The event proved to be highly engaging, informative, and impactful.

The newly elected SRC demonstrated commitment towards building strong partnerships and collaborations that will accelerate student life, strengthen academic support, and contribute positively to the overall development of students at the College.

Motheo TVET College today officially launched the onboarding process for the provision of staff benefits to permanent Council employees.

Representatives from the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) and the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) conducted an informative session, providing employees with valuable insights into the benefits and services available to them.

The session, held at NADA Campus, was well attended, with the hall filled by employees from all our delivery sites. The initiative reflects the College’s commitment to employee wellness, support and empowerment through access to important staff benefit programmes.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Motheo TVET College recently attended the SATVETSA Regional Workshop held in Gauteng Province. The purpose of the workshop was to equip SRC members with valuable knowledge and skills to strengthen student leadership within the TVET sector.

The two-day workshop brought together student leaders from various TVET colleges across the region and provided a platform for engagement, learning, and empowerment. The programme featured insightful presentations and addresses from key stakeholders within the education sector.

Among the distinguished guests were officials from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), who addressed the SRC members on the importance of effective student leadership and the role of student structures in higher education institutions.

Presentations were also delivered by representatives from the Regional Office, Higher Health, COSACSA, National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), as well as the Secretary General of SATVETSA.

Throughout the workshop, students actively engaged in discussions and demonstrated enthusiasm in grasping knowledge about how the TVET sector operates. Participants were further informed about the significant role played by SRCs and SATVETSA in advancing student leadership, student representation, and the overall development of students within colleges.

The workshop proved to be both fruitful and engaging, leaving SRC members empowered and better equipped to serve the student community with dedication, responsibility, and leadership excellence.
