Did you know that team experience plays a big part in landing a first job in the creative industries? 🎮

Talent and tools get young creatives noticed. Experience of working in a team helps them get hired, and being a valued team member helps them keep the job.

On our Game & Interactive Media Development course, students build games together, the way a real studio does. Each takes a role that suits their strengths and interests: coding, 3D art or game design. Their lecturers mentor every team, giving honest feedback and helping them solve problems. Then members of the public play-test the game.

This is a 2025 student team and the underwater game they built together. 100% authentic student work.

If your son or daughter is thinking about a creative career, come and see it for yourselves.

What does one year of studying game and interactive media development actually look like?

Swipe through work made by first-year students on our Game & Interactive Media Development course at the Academy of Digital Arts. They start with the foundations, build their first game as a team three months in, take on a project for a real client seven months in, and finish with a specialisation that becomes the centrepiece of their portfolio.

These skills go well beyond games. Our graduates work as developers, 3D and technical artists and producers, in South Africa and for international studios. Others use them in architecture, advertising, simulation and VR.

If your son or daughter is thinking about a creative career in this field, come and see it for yourself.

Do you want to study with us, but live too far away? Crowds make you uncomfortable? Commute costs got you down? No problem! All of our courses are fully accredited and fully available to attend online. As long as you have a functional computer setup, you can join us from anywhere.

As a virtual student at ADA, you'll be a part of the classroom environment. Our lectures are hosted live on zoom, with cameras and microphones allowing you to see and hear everything that happens in the classroom. We encourage you to switch on your cameras and microphones too, so that you can ask questions, join in on discussions and even yap with your classmates. And if you ever feel like company, or just happen to be nearby, you can always pay us a visit on campus and join the in-person class with our hybrid options.

Did you know that game development is a real career path for creative young people? 🎓

Meet IKHAYA, an original game made by ten ADA graduates. After one year at ADA, they spent 16 months working as a real development team: designing, building, playtesting in public and shipping their game. The demo is playable now on itch.io.

Our alumni work as artists, developers and producers at studios in South Africa and around the world. Others take their game tech and interactive media skills into other industries.

For this assignment, our students took a break from Concept art and tried their hands at fully rendered, digital illustrations. These would be used as promotional materials, covers, loading screens and splash art in the Postproduction phase of any media.

Can you guess what IP these illustrations are from?

Think your child is "just playing games"? 👀

Our Game & Interactive Media Development students built this game, Pixel's Perfect Day, in just 3 weeks, after only 7 months of study. They took it from their own concept to a playable prototype, working as a development team just like a real studio.

In creative and game-tech careers, employers look at what you can make. That's why every ADA game student finishes the year with a professional portfolio. The skills they learn take them into games, architecture, advertising, simulation and VR.
