❔ Are you an e-hailing driver in Johannesburg with a passion for research, education and organising? The Centre for Education Rights and Transformation ( ) in the Faculty of Education at UJ is seeking a for a short-term research project exploring the working conditions and lived experiences of e-hailing drivers in Johannesburg.

The successful candidate will contribute to data collection, interviews and action research, while supporting education and organising efforts within the e-hailing sector.

🔎 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
✔️ Bachelor’s degree
✔️ Proof of being an e-hailing driver in Johannesburg – non-negotiable
✔️ Experience conducting interviews
✔️ Excellent communication and writing skills
✔️ Multilingualism
✔️ Strong negotiation, education and organising skills
✔️ Own resources to conduct the research

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PHILOSOPHY MOVES BEYOND ABSTRACT IDEAS? | What becomes possible when we make space for questioning, dialogue and shared enquiry?

How might philosophical enquiry help us recognise diverse ways of knowing, thinking and making meaning? And what might change when we listen differently and approach children and communities as knowledge creators?

Join the Faculty of Education, University of Johannesburg for an introductory, participatory workshop exploring how pedagogies of questioning can foster inclusive dialogue and recognise diverse ways of knowing and being.

The workshop will introduce Philosophy for/with Children ( ) as an approach that can be adapted across educational, professional and community settings. No previous experience with philosophy or P4wC is required.

🎤 Presenters
🧡Dr Sumaya Babamia (An educator, researcher and speech-language therapist whose work brings philosophical enquiry, neurodiversity and inclusive pedagogy into conversation, with a focus on neurodiverse-led approaches to learning, ethics, communication and participation.)
🧡Dr Rose-Anne Reynolds (A scholar of childhood studies whose research critically engages with concepts of child and childhood, Philosophy with Children, the Philosophy of Childhood and Inclusive Education.)

🌍 A week of international exchange, research and meaningful conversations
This week, the Faculty of Education had the pleasure of hosting Prof Michael Pluess, Distinguished Visiting Professor ( ), as part of an academic engagement hosted by Prof Jace Pillay, and Chair.

ℹ Prof Pluess’s visit brought together research, teaching and dialogue around some of the pressing questions facing children, young people, teachers and education systems today.

The week began with a warm welcome from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation, Prof Refilwe Phaswana-Mafuya, together with the Faculty of Education’s Executive Dean, Prof Nadine Petersen, Vice-Dean: Research and Innovation, Prof Sarita Ramsaroop, and colleagues.

During his visit, Prof Pluess engaged with the UJ community through a public lecture, research workshop and guest lecture, creating opportunities for staff, researchers and students to engage with his expertise in developmental psychology, resilience and differential susceptibility.

From exploring how individual differences shape children’s responses to their environments, to considering the implications of this research for education and mental health, the engagements provided valuable opportunities to connect international research with the South African context.

A sincere thank you to Prof Michael Pluess for sharing his expertise and insights, and to Prof Jace Pillay for hosting this valuable academic engagement.

We look forward to continuing the conversations and collaborations sparked by this visit. 🌍🎓
