TUTSAICE Student Chapter | Roadlab Site Visit

Spent the day at Roadlab in Germiston with the TUTSAICE Student Chapter seeing how quality assurance actually happens on the ground.

Roadlab’s work is driven by SANAS accreditation, so every test and calibration has to meet strict national and international standards. That emphasis on competency and accountability made one thing clear: in civil engineering, precision isn’t extra—it’s the baseline.

We got hands-on with a vernier caliper calibration exercise, and it drove home why small details matter. If the measurement is off, the whole test is off.

Thanks to the Roadlab team for giving us a real look into industry practice. This is why site visits matter.

Join us for the National Engineering Ethics Training on 18 May 2026 at TUT Pretoria West. We’ll be diving into critical topics like the ECSA Code of Conduct, professional accountability, and corruption in procurement.

Be part of the conversation. Drive change. Lead with integrity.

On 29 April, the TUT SAICE Student Chapter, together with SAICE student members, had the privilege of attending a site visit to Valterra Platinum Mine in the Waterberg District, Mokopane.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the companies and engineers who made this experience possible. Thank you to Valterra Mine for opening your doors and investing in students by hosting us on site.
