Ethics in Action: Building Trust in a Changed World | ACCA x UJ Ethics Breakfast 2026

The Department of Commercial Accounting, in partnership with ACCA Africa, hosted an insightful , bringing together thought leaders to explore ethical leadership, accountability, sustainable finance and AI.

As our keynote speaker, Dr Ngobani Johnstone Makhubu, Commissioner of SARS, reminded us: “The time is always right to do what's right.”

Our key takeaway: Ethics goes beyond compliance. Integrity and accountability must guide our everyday decisions.

Ethics in Action | Advancing Ethical Leadership and Accountability

As we observe Ethics Month, the University of Johannesburg’s School of Accounting, through the Wiseman Nkuhlu Centre for Innovation, Thought Leadership and Governance (WNCIG), recently hosted an insightful Thought Leadership Dialogue on ethical leadership, governance and accountability in South Africa.

The dialogue featured Prof Somadoda Fikeni, Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, and Ms Bongi Ngoma CA(SA), Deputy Auditor-General of South Africa.

Prof Wiseman Nkuhlu delivered the welcoming remarks, setting the stage for meaningful discussions on the importance of ethical leadership, good governance and accountability in building a better South Africa.

A timely reminder that ethical leadership is fundamental to building trust and strengthening our institutions.

In recognition of , ACCA, in partnership with the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Commercial Accounting, will host the ACCA x UJ Ethics Breakfast 2026 on the 28th October 2026.

Under the theme “Ethics in Action: Building Trust in a Changed World,” the event will bring together industry and academic leaders to explore ethical leadership, integrity, AI, sustainability, and governance.

The Department of Commercial Accounting (DCA), within the School of Accounting at the University of Johannesburg, invites academics, researchers and postgraduate students to an insightful guest lecture with Prof. Danson Kimani, Associate Professor in Accounting at the University of Sheffield, UK.

Prof. Kimani brings extensive expertise in corporate governance, accountability, public sector reform and sustainability accounting, with a particular focus on African and emerging economies.

Growing the DCA Family: Welcoming Our Newest Experts!

The Department of Commercial Accounting (DCA) is delighted to welcome our new appointments as we continue to grow our team and strengthen our commitment to academic excellence.

We are pleased to welcome Ms Samukelisiwe Hlatshwayo MCom as a Lecturer. Samukelisiwe joined DCA in 2023 as an Assistant Lecturer, the same year she began her Master’s studies. We are proud to see her progress and officially welcome her into her new role as Lecturer.

We also welcome Ms Praise Tandane, our new Assistant Lecturer, who is currently pursuing her Master’s studies. We look forward to supporting her academic journey and seeing her grow as part of the DCA family.

Please join us in congratulating Samukelisiwe Hlatshwayo and welcoming Praise Tandane to their respective roles. We wish them both every success as they continue to contribute to teaching, learning and the growth of our department.
