One of the most common questions about biking to campus is: "What if I need a shower before class or work?" 🤔🚿

Good news! There are now several shower facilities available around TRU:

🚿 Gymnasium
🚿 ITTC (3rd floor)
🚿 Trades and Technology Building (1st floor)
🚿 House of Learning (key fob access available)

Students, staff and faculty can also access showers at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in the Tournament Capital Centre.

Students have free access with their UPass.👨‍🎓

Employees can access the showers at no cost with a City of Kamloops Recreation Account. If you don't already have one, email 📧 [email protected] and we'll help get you set up.

You'll also find bike racks and bike lockers near the TCC main entrance.

Whether you're biking, walking or riding an e-bike, there are plenty of options to help you arrive ready for the day.

TRU‘s first Tree Rescue Event was a great success and brought together a small but powerful crew of five TRU members to dig up and repot 38 evergreen saplings, mostly spruce and a few pines. 🌲

This morning’s event was led by our fearless leaders from the TRU Grounds Department, Ian and Dwayne, and everyone went home very satisfied at the end of the two-hours.

Most of the trees will go to the TRU greenhouses to mature so that they can be planted at a later time either somewhere on campus or on people’s personal properties. Some of the participants took some home as well.

All of these trees would have otherwise had to be removed from where they were ‘voluntarily’ growing on the campus, since they were competing with larger trees. Great job everyone! 👏

Thanks everyone for another successful Trash Bash!

Kudos to 76 participants, from departments across campus, the residences and the local neighborhood including Creston House, who collected a whopping 590 kg of litter from our campus and surrounding area at TRU's 29th annual Trash Bash Campus Clean-up and BBQ on May 14.

Thanks for making campus shine.

Our Trash Bash prize winners:

🗑️ Most Trash Bashed (per capita): Junk & Disorderly. They collected a total of 116.7 kg of trash!

🐈‍⬛ Best Team Spirit: Tidy Cats. They brought spiffy team t-shirts, glittery cat ears and a paw-sitive attitude. (see the photo they created)

🤳 Best Social Media Selfie: Oleksandr from Every Litter Bit Hurts. Shared a blog featuring pictures and a short story that thoughtfully recaps and reflects on the day through one participant’s eyes.

🐣 Weirdest Find: Alana from Third-Floor Trash Tribunal. They found something new and certainly different: hard-boiled eggs.

☀️ Early Bird Registration: Brandi from Trash Pandas was one of the first to register.

Composting has a reputation it doesn't deserve.

People hear the word and immediately think smelly, complicated, not for me.

But here's the thing. It only gets smelly when you add the wrong stuff.

Skip the meat, dairy, cooking oils, bread, and anything from a bakery.

Add coffee grounds, egg shells (crush them first), fruit and vegetable scraps, and grass clippings.

Bonus tip: balance your grass clippings with something dry like dead leaves or a bit of cardboard. It keeps everything happy and breaking down the way it should.

Skip the weeds though. They can spread seeds through your compost and cause more problems than they're worth in your garden.

What you end up with is rich, beautiful soil.

Today is National Learn About Composting Day and the perfect time to start a compost with no smell, just really good dirt.
