The Sustainability Office at TRU works to design and implement the Campus Strategic Plan sustainability components through advocacy, communication and coordination including supporting sustainability research and cost-effective green initiatives. It provides support and resources for students, staff, and faculty who are interested in making TRU The University of Choice for Environmental Sustainability. We welcome your questions on sustainability initiatives, and your suggestions on how to further reduce TRU’s carbon footprint on campus and in the community in the areas of energy, water, food, recycling and zero-waste, transportation, reporting, materials, and engagement. Through working together we can bring about change. Through the TRU Sustainability Grand Fund, TRU students, staff, and faculty can make a positive difference on campus. Let’s help make TRU .

Back-to-School BBQ is almost here! 🌭

We’ll be there Friday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so come find the Sustainability team and say hi.

We’d love to meet you, answer your questions and tell you a little about what we have happening on campus this fall.

And while you’re at the BBQ, help us keep things a little more sustainable.

Bring your reusable water bottle and, when you’re done eating, before you toss your trash, take a quick look at the signs at our Zero Waste Stations and help us put them in the right place.

🔵Recycling
🟢Compost
🔴Refundable
⚫Garbage

There’s a spot for it all.

And one last thing: no liquids in the bins, please! 💧

We’ll see you at the BBQ! 👋

Calling all students, staff, and nature lovers! TRU's BioBlitz is happening during Student Orientation Week on September 22nd.

This is your chance to get involved in a fun, hands-on experience where we work together to help audit the biodiversity on campus flora, fauna, and all things wild!

🕣 When: 10 AM - 2:00 PM
📍 Where: In front of Old Main(look for the big blue Sustainability Office tent)

We’ll be using the iNaturalist app to help us track and record nature. Whether you’re a seasoned nature lover or just curious, everyone can get involved in this pilot program and help us contribute to the biodiversity audit!

Come for an hour or stay for the whole day! Let’s get outdoors, connect with nature, and be a part of ensuring the future of our campus ecosystems.

New to TRU? Here are a few things that are good to know.

Our Sustainability team will be at International Student Orientation on Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. in the Grand Hall.

We’ll be sharing some of the ways sustainability shows up in everyday life at TRU.

Like the fact that you can drink the tap water (and we have refill stations all over campus), bringing your own mug can save you a little money, and not everything you’re finished with belongs in the garbage.

Whether you’re brand new to TRU or could just use a refresher, these are a few handy things to know around campus.

And if you’re at International Student Orientation on Sept. 3, come find us and say hi. We’ll be in the Grand Hall at 3 p.m. 👋🌱

🎬 Films for Change is returning to TRU, bringing the campus community together to watch thought-provoking films and have meaningful conversations about sustainability.

We already have one film lined up for the season, but we'd love to add a few more.

If you've seen a documentary, short film or series that explores sustainability and could spark a great discussion, we'd love to hear your ideas. Community groups, faculty, staff, students and film enthusiasts are all welcome to submit a proposal.

We'll provide the venue, the popcorn 🍿 and help with the event. You bring the film and the conversation.

Interested? Send us an email at [email protected] or visit https://www.tru.ca/sustainability/events/films-for-change-community-film-series.html.

🚲 The bicycle decals around campus are a simple reminder that we all share the road.

Whether you're on a bike, behind the wheel or walking to class, taking an extra moment to look out for one another helps keep everyone safe.

It's also the perfect time to start thinking about GoByBike Week, happening September 19–25. If you've been meaning to get back on your bike, consider this your sign to take it for a spin before September.
