The Development Policies and Practices (DPP) alumni community gathered in Ouagadougou to mark the closing of Module 1, together with Dominique Rossier Musso and Sylvestre Ouedraogo.

We were pleased to welcome Yves Arnoldy from the ICRC and Annalia Bodeo from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for the occasion.
The event also featured the presentation of a book by two of our alumni, Jean-Pierre Salambéré and Sidiki Séré.

A great opportunity to reconnect and exchange with the DPP community in Burkina Faso!

A rich and inspiring career in international labour policy and development cooperation

Carlien van Empel, Director of the ILO Office for the European Union and the Benelux countries, brings almost 30 years of experience in international development cooperation and labour issues. Professor Gilles Carbonnier, Executive Director of Executive Education, was recently in Damascus to engage with the first cohort of the DPP – Governance, Resilience and Recovery in Syria.

Through his sessions, participants examined the complex links between conflict, humanitarian action and economic dynamics, from war economies to the ways aid is financed and delivered in crisis settings.

The sessions sparked rich discussions, connecting broader perspectives with participants’ own professional experiences and the Syrian context.

As part of Module 1 of the Development Policies and Practices (DPP) programme in Francophone Africa, our participants had the opportunity to meet with Yves Arnoldy, Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Burkina Faso.

The exchange provided an opportunity to discuss the humanitarian challenges facing Burkina Faso and the wider region, while learning more about the ICRC’s work and activities on the ground.

This was a particularly relevant exchange for our participants, many of whom encounter humanitarian challenges directly through their professional work and the contexts in which they operate.

An important opportunity to connect the topics explored throughout Module 1 with the realities and experiences of humanitarian actors working in the region.

A warm thank you to Yves Arnoldy and the ICRC team for welcoming our participants and sharing their insights and experience.

🎓 A new DPP cohort begins in Accra! 🇬🇭

We are delighted to kick off Module 1 of the Development Policies and Practices (DPP) Programme in Accra, in partnership with the University of Ghana Business School

Over the coming weeks, participants will engage with key development policy challenges, combining academic learning with their own professional experience and the realities of their respective contexts.

This new cohort brings together professionals from diverse sectors and backgrounds, creating a space for peer learning, critical reflection and the exchange of experiences across countries and institutions.

We wish all our participants, faculty and partners in Accra an inspiring and enriching start to the programme!

Christian Viegelahn, Labor Economist at ILO Bangkok, shares how the Executive Programme in Diplomacy, Negotiation and Policy broadened his horizons, and why these skills matter regardless of your role or organisation.

One element stood out in particular for him: the use of AI in negotiation, and what it means for the future of the field.
