100 Years of Technology in Conference Interpreting: A century of innovation.
On 1–2 October 2026, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) of the University of Geneva (UNIGE) came together to host InTTech100, a truly unique conference at the ILO headquarters in Geneva.
Exactly 100 years after the first experiments with simultaneous interpreting technology at the International Labour Conference in 1926, 150 participants gathered where it all began to reflect on a remarkable century of technological transformation and, more importantly, to explore what comes next.
Bringing together researchers, professional interpreters, educators, institutions and technology specialists, the conference offered an eye-opening exchange of perspectives on artificial intelligence, computer-assisted interpreting, remote interpreting, technological innovation and the evolving role of human expertise.
Beyond celebrating a historic milestone, the conference sparked important conversations about how to embrace technological change responsibly, equip the next generation of interpreters with future-ready skills, and safeguard the quality and human dimension of multilingual dialogue.
One hundred years after technology first transformed conference interpreting, Geneva has once again provided a space to imagine its future.
A heartfelt thank you to all 150 participants, speakers and contributors who made these two days such a stimulating and memorable experience!
