🎓 Από την Κύπρο στη Νέα Υόρκη με 56 χρόνια προσφοράς

Ο Καθηγητής Θεοχάρης Λ. Δαυίδ, αρχιτέκτονας και εκπαιδευτικός με μακρά διεθνή ακαδημαϊκή και επαγγελματική παρουσία, αναγορεύεται σε Επίτιμο Διδάκτορα της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου.

Με 56 χρόνια αδιάλειπτης ακαδημαϊκής υπηρεσίας στο Pratt Institute της Νέας Υόρκης και σημαντική συμβολή στην ίδρυση και ανάπτυξη του Τμήματος Αρχιτεκτονικής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου, ο Θεοχάρης Λ. Δαυίδ έχει συμβάλει ουσιαστικά στη διαμόρφωση γενεών αρχιτεκτόνων.

Η διάλεξη θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Φουαγιέ στην Καλλιπόλεως την Πέμπτη 29 Οκτωβρίου στις 19:00. Η ομιλία θα γίνει στα αγγλικά.

Talking Back!

Architects rarely build what they design; they build models. But what does a model know? Some models only repeat what we put into them: they persuade, but they cannot be wrong. Others answer back. Gaudí's hanging strings calculated with gravity. Musmeci's loaded models gave a bridge its form. A hydraulic model of San Francisco Bay ended a plan to dam it.

Alessandro Tellini (ETH Zurich) traces three ways of thinking about models, from Alberti and to Lévi-Strauss, Schön and actor-network theory: the model as idea, as test, and as actor. Along the way he asks who, and what, speaks when we make, and what changes when a model becomes big enough to argue back.

📋 Title: Before Bilbao: The Case Study of Hans Hollein’s Museum in Mönchengladbach

The lecture discusses the transformation of the Mönchengladbach museum into an international centre for avant-garde art and the architecture of Hans Hollein’s new building, opened in 1982. It examines the museum’s integration into the urban fabric and its influence on the development of architectural tourism.
