As part of the Faculty of Pharmacy at The British University in Egypt’s ongoing commitment to community service and educational excellence, the Faculty, in cooperation with The School of Continuing Education (SCE), proudly hosted the IGCSE Biology Practical Examinations for the ninth consecutive year, on Thursday, 29 October 2026, organised by The British Council. This continued collaboration reflects the trust placed in the Faculty’s advanced resources, laboratories, and facilities.

The Faculty welcomed 266 students from various schools into its state-of-the-art pharmacy laboratories, providing them with a well-equipped and supportive environment to conduct their practical examinations.

This ongoing initiative reflects the Faculty’s dedication to supporting educational institutions, strengthening community partnerships, and promoting a culture of academic excellence and learning beyond boundaries.

Under the auspices of Professor Abdelgawad Hashem, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, at The British University in Egypt (BUE), the faculty completed its Round 1 follow-up visits to our pharmacy interns at several leading hospitals:

· Police Hospital, New Cairo
· Ahl Masr Hospital
· International Medical Center (IMC)
· Electricity Hospital
· Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357

Field visits were conducted by Dr Noha El Baghdady, Lecturer of Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Head of the Training Unit.

It was a pleasure to meet the Faculty’s interns on site and check on their progress, their experience, and their integration within the hospital pharmacy and healthcare teams.

What made these visits especially meaningful was meeting the Faculty’s graduates, who completed their internship year and are now working in these same hospitals, training and mentoring the current interns. Seeing the Faculty’s alumni step into the role of mentors, passing on their knowledge and experience, is a proud moment for the Faculty and a true reflection of the quality of our programme.

The Faculty of Pharmacy sincerely thanks the hospital leadership and training supervisors for their warm welcome and ongoing collaboration, and we wish all our interns a productive and rewarding internship year.

Excellence Beyond the Classroom! 🥉🏊‍♂️🥈

The Faculty of Pharmacy at The British University in Egypt proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of Hamza Abdelnasser Saber Ahmed, a Year 3 Pharmacy student, at the Upper Egypt Regional Swimming Competition, held in Hurghada from 1–9 September 2026.

Hamza proudly won three medals in the competition, securing:
🥉 Bronze in the 1,500 m Freestyle
🥉 Bronze in the 800 m Freestyle
🥈 Silver in the 4 × 100 m Freestyle Relay

His remarkable achievement reflects his dedication, determination and sporting excellence.

🏆 A Prestigious International Recognition for Our Visiting Professor!

🎉 The Faculty of Pharmacy at The British University in Egypt (BUE) proudly congratulates Prof. Magid Abou-Gharbia, Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, on receiving the prestigious 2026 John Scott Award, one of the oldest and most distinguished scientific awards in the United States.

This remarkable honor recognizes Prof. Abou-Gharbia’s outstanding contributions to medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical innovation, spanning more than five decades of groundbreaking research and drug discovery.

Throughout his distinguished career, Prof. Abou-Gharbia has played a pioneering role in the discovery and development of important therapeutic agents, including Effexor (venlafaxine), a widely used antidepressant, and dezocine, an analgesic.

The 2026 John Scott Award celebrates Prof. Magid Abou-Gharbia’s discoveries, which have significantly advanced human health and scientific understanding. The award ceremony took place on October 27, 2026, in Philadelphia, USA.

The Faculty of Pharmacy at BUE Contributes to the COP31 Simulation Conference

The Faculty of Pharmacy at The British University in Egypt participated in the closing ceremony of the COP31 Simulation Conference on 1 October 2026, attended by Professor Abdelgawad Hashem, Faculty Dean; Professor Nahla El Ashmawy, Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning; Professor Mohamed Kamal, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and a group of staff members.

Moreover, the faculty participated in COP 31 activities by moderating discussion sessions, Professor Noha Swilam, Professor of Pharmacognosy, and Dr Rasha Tawfiq, Lecturer of Pharmacology, moderated discussion sessions. The sessions were discussing Youth, actions for climate empowerment (ACE) and Capacity Building in addition to institutional governance of climate adaptation concerned with integrating Food, Agriculture, and Water Security Policies, on 26 September 2026, bringing together Egyptian and international participants representing several countries like Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Mexico and the United Kingdom etc.

The sessions explored youth-related issues, climate change awareness, climate adaptation and the management of financial resources related to climate change. Participants presented valuable proposals, reflecting their awareness and maturity in addressing global climate challenges.

Last week, Dr Paul McCague and Professor Brendan Gilmore visited the The British University in Egypt - Faculty of Pharmacy at the The British University in Egypt (BUE) in Cairo, as part of our ongoing academic engagement between the two schools.

It was a pleasure to meet colleagues, students and alumni at BUE, to learn more about their pharmacy programme and to hear about their future ambitions. We're very grateful for the warm welcome extended throughout the visit.

Paul and Brendan also had the chance to visit the Pyramids of Giza — a memorable opportunity to experience one of the world's most famous landmarks and appreciate a little of Egypt's rich cultural heritage.

Under the auspices of Professor Mohamed Loutfi MBE, President and Vice Chancellor of The British University in Egypt, and Professor Tarek Abbas , Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Health Cluster, The Faculty of Pharmacy led by the Dean Professor Abdelgawad Hashem and in cooperation with Professor Nahla El Ashmawy, Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning, the Faculty of Pharmacy participated in a medical convoy to Ain El-Sira in Cairo, on October 15th 2026, organised by the Health Cluster in the British University in Egypt. The faculty supported the convoy by providing a variety of medications received as donations from pharmaceutical companies. These included mucolytic agents, broad-spectrum antibiotics indicated for upper respiratory tract infections, cough medications, bronchodilators, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), potent analgesics used in the management of rheumatic conditions, as well as antacids and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for treatment of gastritis and ulcers.

More than 500 packs of various available medications were dispensed during the convoy with a detailed orientation of the medication administration, contributing to meeting the healthcare needs of the beneficiaries.

The Faculty of Pharmacy was represented by Assistant Lecturer NourAllah Ahmed and three pharmacy students. The faculty reiterates its sincere appreciation to all colleagues involved in organising this initiative and looks forward to continued collaboration in serving the community and supporting public health.

Yousef proudly secured 3rd place in the 200 Bifins Race, showcasing his dedication, determination and sporting excellence.
