Four UK immigration updates you should know about from the Budget published on 28 October! 🇬🇧
But remember—these are announced changes. They are not rules you can use yet.
1️⃣ Two-year Graduate visas for some students
The government plans to give two-year Graduate visas to graduates from certain universities.
These universities must have a strong record of following immigration rules and good employment outcomes for graduates.
So this new benefit will not apply to every university.
Under the currently published rules, most Graduate visa applications from 1st January 2027 receive 18 months. phd graduates receive three years.
2️⃣ More universities eligible for the HPI visa
The government plans to expand the High Potential Individual visa to the world’s top 150 universities, compared with 80 on the current list.
UK universities are excluded, so a UK degree alone will not qualify you. If you hold an eligible overseas qualification, you would need to check the other requirements.
3️⃣ Up to six months to find another sponsored job
Currently, if you lose your sponsored job, the Home Office usually gives you 60 days —to apply for a new visa or leave the UK.
but The government now plans to give certain highly skilled workers up to six months, starting in 2027.
It will not apply to everyone. The time allowed will depend on how long you worked in your previous highly paid job.
4️⃣ Changes to sponsorship salary requirements
From spring 2027, the government plans to lower some job-specific minimum salaries.
But the general salary requirement will also be updated. So don’t assume every sponsored role will have a lower minimum salary.
