Congratulations to Prof. Moonyoung Hong for winning the prestigious Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities (HKAH) First Book Prize 2026!

At the Annual General Meeting held on 23rd October, Prof. Hong delivered an acceptance speech and was formally inducted as an Early Career Fellow of HKAH. The award was presented by Prof. Hans Ladegaard (President of HKAH) and Prof. T.K. Lee (Vice-President of HKAH).

Established in 2011, the Academy honors the most distinguished scholars and practitioners of the Humanities in Hong Kong. The First Book Prize is given to the best-submitted manuscript of a humanities scholar in the early stages of their career.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made HKU Info Day 2026 a great success! 😊👏

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our Head of School, Prof. Tong King Lee, for his strategic guidance, and to the members of our Info Day Taskforce (Prof. Ricky Chan, Prof. Tara Lee, Dr. Kristen Murray, Mandy, Angus, Isaac, Odo and Lavender) whose dedicated planning and coordination brought this event to life.

I am also truly grateful to all our student ambassadors for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication in promoting our English Studies and Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies programmes to visitors. You played a pivotal role in welcoming prospective students and their families, helping them navigate our programmes, and sharing the HKU experience.

Special thanks to Prof. Janny Leung and Dr. Kristen Murray for delivering the inspiring mock lectures and open drama rehearsals, giving visitors a glimpse into our dynamic teaching and learning environment.

Thank you to all the teachers who stopped by to speak with our students and visitors. Your presence and support were greatly appreciated.

Look at HKU School of English's representation at the Coalition of English Departments in Asia (COEDA) 2026 conference at Seoul National University in South Korea last week!

This year's theme was “Echoes and Emergences,” and five RPG students (three MPhil and two PhD students) from our school presented their latest research in English Literature and Language & Communication.

We are so proud of our students and their achievements. Bravo! 👏🎉

*COEDA is a joint graduate student conference co-hosted by the English departments of the University of Hong Kong, Seoul National University, the University of Tokyo, National Taiwan University, and the National University of Singapore. It is a vibrant platform for research-oriented graduate students across Asia to exchange ideas and foster meaningful academic conversations.
