This issue’s feature story highlights the Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Conference 2026, co-organised by the Academy and the Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Centre. Under the theme “Alliance for Action”, the conference brings together artists, cultural leaders, and experts from around the world to discuss how cross-disciplinary collaboration can advance cultural sustainability and innovation.

【文化可持續發展的多角度實踐 | Multiple Perspectives on Cultural Sustainability】

可持續發展涵蓋的面向甚廣，既在舞台製作的每一個環節出現，也與我們如何理解城市、鄉村和郊野的關係息息相關。

《香港文化與可持續發展會議 2026》兩個專題討論，分別聚焦劇場製作的亞洲實踐，以及城市發展中的鄉村文化：前者探討節能減碳、循環再用等思潮來到亞洲後，怎樣發展出貼合在地情境的實踐方法，同時又會面對什麼具體挑戰；後者從更廣闊的城市脈絡出發，思考鄉村和郊野在城市發展過程中所扮演的角色，涵蓋環境保育、文化記憶保存、社群連結維繫，以及城市想像活化等。

從製作一場演出到守護一片鄉郊，兩節活動邀請參加者一同思考：文化實踐如何回應在地環境，並在不同尺度上推動可持續發展。

《香港文化與可持續發展會議 2026》由香港演藝學院與香港文化及可持續發展中心聯合呈獻及主辦；本屆會議為香港演藝博覽2026「伙伴節目」之一。

Sustainability encompasses a wide range of considerations. It is present in every stage of theatre production, while also shaping how we understand the relationship between cities, rural areas and the countryside.

Two panel discussions at Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Conference 2026 will focus respectively on Asian practices in theatre production and urban development and rural culture. The first examines how ideas around energy conservation, carbon reduction and circular reuse can be adapted to local Asian contexts, as well as the specific challenges that may arise. The second takes a broader urban perspective, considering the roles rural areas and the countryside play in urban development - from environmental conservation and the preservation of cultural memory, to sustaining community connections and renewing our imagination of the city.

From producing a performance to safeguarding a rural landscape, these two sessions invite participants to consider how cultural practice can respond to local environments and advance sustainability at different scales.

【香港演藝學院歡迎王維先生出任戲劇學院表演系主任︱HKAPA welcomes Jason Wang as Head of Acting at HKAPA Drama🎭】

香港演藝學院歡迎王維先生出任表演系主任，並於2026年8月31日履新。

王維先生為資深演員、配音藝術家及教育工作者，擁有逾30年豐富舞台及教學經驗。作為香港首屈一指的普通話及粵語雙語配音員，王先生曾於香港話劇團擔任全職演員22年，參演近200部劇作，涵蓋古典與當代作品、中外劇目及音樂劇。其演藝成就備受肯定，曾獲香港及內地多項重要戲劇獎項提名，並榮獲香港舞台劇獎最佳男主角、最佳男配角及國際演藝評論家協會（香港分會）年度演員獎等殊榮。

除演藝事業外，王先生長期積極參與表演藝術界發展，現任中國戲劇家協會理事及香港藝術發展局戲劇顧問，並於香港及大灣區多個藝術機構擔任顧問及領導職務，致力培育新一代演藝人才。

HKAPA warmly welcomes Mr Jason Wang (Jason) as Head of Acting at HKAPA Drama, effective 31 August 2026.

Jason brings over three decades of experience as an actor, voice artist, and educator. Widely recognised as Hong Kong’s leading professional Mandarin-Cantonese bilingual voice actor, he spent 22 years as a full-time actor with the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, appearing in nearly 200 productions across classical and contemporary theatre, Chinese and international repertoire, and musical theatre. Jason’s achievements on stage have been widely recognised, earning him major award nominations in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland and several prestigious honours, including the Hong Kong Drama Awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, as well as the IATC (Hong Kong) Performer of the Year Award.

In addition to his work as a performer and voice artist, Jason is an active contributor to the performing arts sector. He currently serves as a Council Member of the China Theatre Association and Drama Adviser to the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, while continuing to nurture the next generation of performers through teaching, mentorship, and industry engagement.

演藝學院懷著沉痛的心情悼念榮譽院士劉兆銘（Ming Sir）辭世（1931–2026）。

Ming Sir是享譽香港的舞蹈家、編舞家、教育家及資深演員，一生奉獻藝術。作為首批遠赴歐洲接受專業舞蹈訓練的香港舞蹈家之一，他開拓了本地舞蹈藝術的視野與可能，也以其卓越成就和堅持不懈的藝術追求，深深影響了幾代香港表演藝術工作者。

多年來，Ming Sir與演藝學院結下深厚情誼，一直鼎力支持學院發展，與學院同行成長。他不僅是舞蹈學院的創院成員及顧問，亦曾擔任戲劇學院客席講師，悉心培育年輕藝術家，慷慨分享其豐富的舞台經驗和人生智慧。演藝學院於2007年向Ming Sir頒授榮譽院士銜，以表彰他對香港演藝界及文化藝術發展的傑出貢獻。演藝學院校長陳頌瑛教授表示：「Ming Sir是香港表演藝術界備受敬重的前輩，也是演藝學院親密的同行者和良師。他畢生對藝術的熱愛、對後輩的提攜，以及對香港文化藝術發展的卓越貢獻，深深啟發了無數藝術工作者。Ming Sir的精神與風範，將繼續在演藝學院及整個藝術界薪火相傳。」

今天，我們懷着感恩與不捨，緬懷這位德藝雙馨的藝術家。他留下的不僅是無數經典作品，更是一份對藝術的熱愛、對後輩的關懷，以及對香港表演藝術發展的深遠影響。

謹向其家人、親友及所有敬愛他的朋友致以最深切的慰問。願Ming Sir安息。🕊️

The Academy mourns the passing of our Honorary Fellow, Lau Siu-ming (Ming Sir) (1931-2026).

A pioneering dancer, choreographer, educator, and acclaimed actor, Ming Sir devoted his life to the arts and to nurturing generations of artists. As one of the first Hong Kong dancers to pursue professional training in Europe, he broadened the horizons of local dance and paved the way for future practitioners through his artistry, vision, and unwavering dedication.

Ming Sir shared a deep and lasting bond with and is always a staunch supporter of the Academy. He was a founding member and adviser of its School of Dance, and also served as a guest lecturer in the School of Drama. Through his generosity in sharing his experience, wisdom, and passion for the performing arts, he inspired countless young artists and made an enduring contribution to arts education in Hong Kong. In 2007, the Academy conferred upon him an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the performing arts and the cultural development of Hong Kong.

Academy Director Professor Anna CY Chan said, "Ming Sir was not only an accomplished artist, but also a cherished mentor and friend to many of us. His passion for the arts, dedication to nurturing young talent, and immense contribution to the development of Hong Kong's performing arts will continue to inspire our students and the wider arts community for generations to come."

Today, we remember with gratitude not only a remarkable artist, but also a beloved mentor and steadfast supporter of the arts community. His legacy lives on in the generations of artists he inspired, and in the vibrant cultural landscape he helped shape.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace. 🕊️

【跨地域對話 共商不同文化脈絡下的可持續發展 | Conversations Across Regions: Sustainability in Different Cultural Contexts】

可持續發展既是一個全球議題，同時也是一個地區議題。不同地方的經濟、地理、氣候和社會條件，如何塑造出各具特色的文化與可持續實踐？

《香港文化與可持續發展會議 2026》匯聚兩個專題討論：「中國內地案例」與「東南亞視角」。前者探討中國內地近年在環境保育、科技創新和城市綠化方面的進展，以及不同城市與領域之間的可借鑑經驗；後者則從東南亞的案例出發，思考區域內的多元觀點如何為文化與可持續發展帶來新的想像。

講者來自商界、學界和社區等不同範疇，包括溢達集團副董事長楊敏賢、四葉草堂總幹事尹科孌、新加坡植物園經理 （活動與展覽）陳淑恩，以及菲律賓大學迪里曼分校藝術研究學系助理教授馬克．路易．L．魯格等等。

透過跨地域對話，參加者將更清楚看見：在截然不同的脈絡之下，文化實踐如何回應在地挑戰，同時彼此啟發。

Sustainability is both a global issue and a regional one. How do local economies, geographies, climates and social conditions shape distinct approaches to culture and sustainable practice?

Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Conference 2026 brings together two panel discussions: “Case Studies from Mainland China” and “A Southeast Asian Perspective”. The first explores recent advances in environmental conservation, technological innovation and urban greening in Mainland China, and the lessons that can be drawn across different cities and sectors. The second draws on cases from Southeast Asia to consider how diverse regional viewpoints can open up new possibilities for culture and sustainability.

Speakers come from business, academia and community practice, including Teresa Yang, Vice Chairman of Esquel Group; Keluan Yin, Director of Clover Nature School; Kimberly Ann Marie Chan, Manager (Events & Exhibitions) at the Singapore Botanic Gardens; and Mark Louie L. Lugue, Assistant Professor in the Department of Art Studies, University of the Philippines Diliman.

Through these cross-regional conversations, participants will gain a clearer view of how cultural practices respond to local challenges in very different contexts - and how they can inspire one another.

【香港演藝學院歡迎貝逸明先生出任弦樂系主任︱HKAPA welcomes Benjamin Beck as Head of Strings at HKAPA Music🎵】

香港演藝學院歡迎貝逸明先生出任弦樂系主任，並於2026年9月1日履新。

貝逸明先生為傑出中提琴家、音樂教育家及編曲家，國際演出經驗豐富。在加入演藝學院前，他曾任維也納愛樂樂團首席中提琴，並曾於巴伐利亞國家歌劇院管弦樂團及巴塞隆拿交響樂團擔任首席，亦曾任布魯塞爾皇家音樂學院教授。

作為獨奏家及室樂演奏家，貝逸明先生的足跡遍及維也納音樂協會大廳、柏林愛樂音樂廳及紐約卡內基音樂廳等頂尖音樂殿堂。除演奏與教學外，他亦以創新改編大型管弦樂及歌劇作品著稱，透過跨領域創作拓展中提琴曲目，為古典曲目注入全新活力。

HKAPA warmly welcomes Benjamin Beck as Head of Strings at HKAPA Music, effective 1 September 2026.

Benjamin Beck brings a distinguished international career as a violist, educator, and arranger. Most recently Principal Violist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, he previously held principal positions with the Bavarian State Orchestra and Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, and served as a Professor at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Benjamin has performed at prestigious venues including the Wiener Musikverein, Berliner Philharmonie, and Carnegie Hall. Beyond performance and teaching, he is also recognised for expanding the viola repertoire through innovative chamber adaptations of major orchestral and operatic works, bringing fresh perspectives to classical repertoire.
