HKU Shun Hing College One of the first four residential colleges in HKU.

Shun Hing College (formerly Block A) at Jockey Club Student Village III of the University of Hong Kong seeks to build an inclusive and vibrant model of community engagement by fostering exchanges and common experiences among our residents. Master Ying Chan, an HKU alumna, veteran journalist and director of HKU’s Journalism and Media Studies Centre, leads the College in encouraging civic participation and mutual learning among students from a wide range of backgrounds. Housing both undergraduates and postgraduate students, Shun Hing College encourages residents to consider their engagement with one another, the fast-changing neighborhood of Kennedy Town, and the wider world while pursuing a balance of academics and social life. The College’s events provide regular opportunities to advance these goals, focusing on multicultural, globally oriented programming that challenges residents to think and grow as global citizens.

[63rd High Table Dinner - “The Golden Prologue: A New Chapter, Illuminated”]

On 19 September, Shun Hing College held its 63rd High Table Dinner under the theme “The Golden Prologue: A New Chapter, Illuminated.” Combining the warm inclusivity of the golden hour with the promise of a prologue, the evening celebrated new beginnings and the shared potential of our vibrant Shun Hing College community as we embark on the new academic year.

A central highlight of the night was the inspiring speech delivered by our College Master Professor David S.Lee. Reflecting on the essence of residential life, he reminded residents of the importance of building trust and establishing a strong reputation among peers. He encouraged everyone to take the simple initiative of greeting floormates and neighbours in shared spaces like elevators, noting that everyday interactions are the foundation of genuine connection. He also drew a meaningful distinction between a dream and a goal, highlighting that turning ambitions into reality requires active effort and discipline.

Our 63rd High Table Dinner was a memorable evening of reflection and connection, marking a great start as we step into this new chapter together.

On 12–13 September 2026, Shun Hing College kicked off the new academic year with Orientation Weekend in College Hall, JCSV III, welcoming our newest members to the SHC community.

The two days began with ice-breaking games, team challenges, and crest-making, giving new residents their first taste of SHC spirit. They also wrote letters to their future selves, met the College Master and the Tutorial Team, and explored the many clubs and teams at the recruitment fair.

With plenty of energy and connection, the weekend was filled with laughter, teamwork, and community spirit, before closing with a lively scavenger hunt around the College. As we move forward, we're excited to see what this new chapter brings.

We sincerely thank the Orientation Core Committee, all team leaders, tutors, volunteers, and every new resident who joined us. Here's to making even more memories together in the coming academic year!

Welcome to Shun Hing College!

On April 10, 11, and 18, 9 Lung Wah Playhouse put on Perfectly Fine April’s Fool—an original, heartfelt musical written, produced, and performed entirely by students. 🎭

The show was structured as three interconnected acts, following a character named Rosie Pie on a really moving journey through self-discovery and healing. It was amazing to see how much work the cast and crew put into this behind the scenes over the last few months. From the acting and choreography to the live music, lighting, and custom sets, every single detail came together perfectly to create something special for the audience.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out to support us, and an even bigger shoutout to the incredible cast, crew, and musicians who made it all happen!

On the 1st of May, 2026, Shun Hing College held its 62nd High Table Dinner, themed “Voyagers of Tomorrow.” For the first time in the College’s history, the event was hosted aboard Harbour Cruise Bauhinia, bringing residents together for an evening on Victoria Harbour.

A buffet-style dinner was served on board, featuring a wide range of international dishes reflecting the multicultural spirit of our College. Surrounded by panoramic views of Hong Kong‘s iconic harbour skyline, guests enjoyed a unique dining experience at sea.

The theme ”Voyagers of Tomorrow“ celebrated courage, progress, and the promise of new horizons. Like the gentle motion of the vessel beneath us, the evening was a reminder that growth is shaped by resilience, learning, and the experiences we share with one another.

In his closing remarks, College Master Professor David S. Lee reflected on the importance of direction. He noted that without a clear destination or point of reference, one can keep moving and may end up going in circles. He encouraged residents to find purpose, values, and guidance as they navigate what lies ahead.

The evening was made possible by the dedication of Maggie Xiong, Chair of the Shun Hing College Event Management Team, and the hard work of the team behind her.

Our 62nd High Table Dinner was a memorable voyage of celebration and aspiration, and we look forward to many more moments of connection and discovery ahead.
