𝐄𝐝𝐔𝐇𝐊 𝐏𝐡𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 | 𝐃𝐫 𝐙𝐞𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐧'𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡

2024 PhD graduate 𝗗𝗿 𝗭𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗻 has built an impressive record of research and publication. Her work has appeared in leading international outlets, including TESOL Quarterly and the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, as well as chapters in edited volumes published by Routledge.

Dr Zeng began her doctoral journey in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic posed the biggest obstacle. Her supervisor, Dr Kevin Yung, encouraged her to explore the experiences of non-local PhD students, and she embarked on a project examining their agency in times of crisis. The study resulted in a book chapter published in 2023.

One of the defining moments of her PhD journey came on the day of her graduation, when she received news that her first major journal article had been accepted for publication. She also credits the annual Department of Curriculum and Instruction Conference for helping her develop as a scholar and connect with the wider academic community.

During her time at EdUHK, Dr Zeng formed a long-term research collaboration with Dr Lu Chaoqun. Their shared research interests later led to a publication in the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development.

The knowledge, skills, and connections Dr Zeng developed at EdUHK continue to shape her career today. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 (𝗜𝗣𝗖𝗥𝗙) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 from 28 to 31 July on its Tai Po campus. Under the theme ‘Resilience and Adaptability: Preparing Global Citizens for Sustainable Development’, the conference provided an interdisciplinary platform spanning artificial intelligence (AI), education, health sciences, linguistics, and psychology. More than 400 postgraduate students, alumni, and distinguished scholars from 30 countries and regions gathered to share cutting-edge research and foster academic exchange.

In late August, the Graduate School (GS) welcomed new Doctor of Education (EdD) students through two separate orientation sessions for the English and Chinese cohorts. ✨

Professor Wai-Kai Hou, EdD Programme Director, welcomed students with an introduction to the EdD programme and the academic journey ahead. Students also received guidance on course registration and self-paced learning resources, while GS Academic Tutor Dr John Patkin shared practical tips on thesis writing and academic planning.🌱

From programme roadmaps to teaching and research support, the orientation sessions provided students with practical guidance for their doctoral studies.

The Graduate School wishes all EdD students a rewarding and successful journey ahead. 📚

The Graduate School (GS) warmly welcomed new 𝗣𝗵𝗗 and 𝗠𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹 students to the Research Postgraduate (RPg) Programme at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) during an orientation session held on 2 September 2026.

In her welcome address, Professor Michelle Gu Mingyue, Assistant Vice President (Research) and RPg Programme Director, outlined the opportunities and expectations of research studies at EdUHK. This was followed by presentations from RPg Programme Leaders Dr Jennie Li Zhen and Dr Lucas Kohnke, and RPg Programme Coordinator Dr Ripple Lian Yi, who introduced key academic policies, study requirements, resources, and support services. The session offered students a clear overview of the RPg experience and helped lay the groundwork for their future research endeavours.

We wish our new students every success as they begin their studies at EdUHK.🎓✨

🎉 New Record High! 73 EdUHK Scholars Named Among the World's Top 2% Scientists 2026

A total of 73 EdUHK scholars have been listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2026 compiled by Stanford University, representing an increase of over 30% compared to last year and marking a new record high. Among them, 41 scholars were ranked within the world’s top 1%, underscoring the University’s growing research strength, academic excellence and international recognition.

The scholars named in the list span 21 disciplines, including education, linguistics, artificial intelligence and image processing, environmental science, music, forestry, rehabilitation sciences, geriatrics, and neurology. Their achievements reflect EdUHK’s growing research strengths beyond education and its expanding impact across a diverse range of interdisciplinary areas.

This recognition is particularly meaningful as EdUHK celebrates the 10th anniversary of its retitling. Over the past decade, the University has continued to advance academic and research excellence, attract outstanding scholars from around the world, foster international collaboration, and strengthen its local, national and global impact.

At the outset of the 2026/27 academic year, EdUHK welcomed 15 distinguished professors from leading universities in Europe and Asia, bringing fresh momentum to interdisciplinary research and global collaboration while further enhancing the University’s international presence.
