ARENA is partner in the Horizon Europe project QUEST!
QUEST examines the transformation of European security. The project pays particular attention to the EU’s ambition to become strategically autonomous.
“What does this objective actually entail for the EU as a polity and for its relations with the wider world, and which factors shape the development towards a more autonomous EU?” are among the questions the project addresses.
Helene Sjursen, Research Professor at ARENA Centre for European Studies, coordinates ARENA’s contributions to the project
“Europe is caught in a double bind, between an unpredictable and seemingly unreliable United States and an aggressive Russia,” says Sjursen.
“In this situation, the EU has become a key actor in European security. It is important to understand what drives European integration in this domain, how it contributes to redefine the European security architecture, and how that might impact states within and outside the Union,” she emphasises.
