Important information about Doctoral IDs used as Kraków Public Transport tickets!
🇵🇱 Komunikacja miejska w Krakowie - legitymacje doktoranckie (ELD) jako nośnik biletów
Drodzy Doktoranci, Drogie Doktorantki,
Zaniepokojeni informacją z początku roku akademickiego, iż Elektroniczne Legitymacje Studenckie (ELS) przestaną być w Krakowie nośnikami biletów okresowych, zwróciliśmy uwagę, że w komunikatach zabrakło informacji o Elektronicznych Legitymacjach Doktoranta (ELD), które są nadal wydawane i obowiązujące. Jako środowisko doktoranckie poczuliśmy się niedoinformowani.
W związku z tym jako Towarzystwo Doktorantów UJ niezwłocznie rozpoczęliśmy korespondencję z Zarządem Transportu Publicznego (ZTP) w Krakowie. Niestety - nie mamy dobrych wiadomości.
ZTP informuje:
„W związku, iż ELD posiada te same specyfikacje techniczne co ELS oraz współpraca między krakowskimi uczelniami a MPK zostanie zakończona, również plastikowy nośnik ELD przestanie być nośnikiem biletów okresowych w KMK.”
Dopytaliśmy także o to, jak długo będzie można kodować bilety na istniejących już legitymacjach. Odpowiedź ZTP pozostawia wiele niewiadomych:
ZTP:
„W związku z bardzo dużą ilością wydanych legitymacji studenckich oraz doktoranckich nie ma dokładnego terminu zablokowania wszystkich ELD jako nośników biletów”.
Uzyskaliśmy jednak jedno istotne potwierdzenie: wszystkie ważne bilety zapisane na ELD zachowają swoją ważność do końca okresu obowiązywania.
Po wygaśnięciu biletu być może nadal będzie możliwość zakupu kolejnego, jednak ZTP nie daje żadnej gwarancji. Rekomendujemy więc wyrobienie innego nośnika biletu (np. aplikacji mKKM/mKK, Krakowskiej Karty Miejskiej).
Podsumowanie:
🔹wszystkie ELD przestaną być nośnikiem biletów KMK;
🔹proces blokowania trwa - nie ma jednej daty granicznej;
🔹ważne bilety już zapisane na ELD będą honorowane do końca ich ważności;
🔹po wygaśnięciu posiadanego biletu zalecamy wyrobić inny nośnik, aby móc zakupić kolejny bilet okresowy.
Jeśli zastanawiacie się, skąd to wszystko i dlaczego teraz - odpowiadamy najuczciwiej: też dowiedzieliśmy się o tym z mediów.
PS. Pamiętajcie, żeby podczas podróży KMK mieć przy sobie legitymację doktorancką - tylko wtedy przysługuje Wam prawo do biletu ulgowego.
🇬🇧 Public Transport in Kraków - Important Update on Doctoral ID Cards (ELD)
Dear PhD Students,
At the beginning of the academic year, Kraków Public Transport (KMK) announced that student ID cards (ELS) would no longer function as carriers for periodic tickets. Unfortunately, these announcements did not mention doctoral ID cards (ELD), which are still officially issued and valid. This left many of us without clear information.
To clarify the situation, the Jagiellonian University PhD Students’ Association contacted the Public Transport Authority (ZTP). The response was not optimistic.
ZTP confirmed:
“Since the doctoral ID card (ELD) uses the same technical system as the student ID (ELS), and cooperation between Kraków universities and MPK is being phased out, the ELD plastic card will also stop functioning as a carrier for KMK periodic tickets.”
We also asked what will happen to tickets already encoded on ELDs and how long it will be possible to buy new ones. ZTP could not provide a clear timeline:
ZTP stated:
“Due to the large number of issued student and doctoral IDs, there is no exact date when all doctoral cards will be disabled as ticket carriers.”
One thing is certain: any active ticket already encoded on an ELD will remain valid until its expiration date. After that, it may or may not still be possible to purchase a new one, but this is not guaranteed.
To avoid complications, we strongly recommend switching to another carrier, such as: the mKKM/mKK mobile app, the Kraków City Card (KKM).
Summary:
🔹All ELD cards will eventually stop functioning as carriers of KMK periodic tickets.
🔹There is no precise date for when the system will be fully disabled.
🔹Current valid tickets on ELDs will remain valid until the expiration date.
🔹After your ticket expires, a new ticket carrier will be required.

PS: Always carry your doctoral ID card when traveling by KMK, regardless of the ticket carrier used. It is the only document that entitles you to a reduced-fare ticket.
