We are building academic bridges with Vietnam 🇵🇱 🎓 🇻🇳

The visit to Vietnam dr habil. Magdalena Barwiołek, NCU Prof. and the Vice-Rector for International Relations, has opened up new prospects for joint research projects, student and staff exchanges, and the strengthening of NCU international standing.

The main objectives of the visit to Vietnam were to develop international scientific and educational cooperation, promote Polish higher education, and build relationships with Vietnamese universities and institutions. The meetings took place as part of efforts to internationalise Polish universities, carried out in cooperation with NAWA Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej (the National Agency for Academic Exchange).

One of the highlights of the programme was participation in the international education fair 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲, held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The events were attended by 70 universities and educational institutions from 17 European Union countries, as well as participation in the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗿𝗮, organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. The conference focused on digital transformation in higher education: the challenges, opportunities and its impact on the development of the international scientific and educational community.

A key part of the programme consisted of meetings at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Hanoi, attended by Joanna Skoczek, Chargé d’affaires ad interim, during which Vice-Chancellor Magdalena Barwiołek spoke on behalf of KRASP – the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. Representatives of Vietnamese universities, the business community, graduates of Polish higher education institutions and Poles living in Vietnam also took part in the discussions.

The intensive programme of meetings also included a discussion with Piotr Hrasimowicz, head of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) representative office in Vietnam. Topics discussed included, amongst others, opportunities for combining the potential of the academic community with the needs of the economy, and the development of cooperation between universities and the business sector.

Professor Magdalena Barwiołek also visited Vietnamese higher education institutions, including the East Asia University of Technology, to learn about their activities and the potential for joint educational and scientific initiatives.

The visit culminated in bilateral meetings organised as part of the Edu & Science Meetings Vietnam 2026 at RMIT University Vietnam. Discussions centred on specific opportunities for cooperation between Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and Vietnamese universities, opening up prospects for future joint ventures.

Three days in Lisbon, one shared goal: better support for research!

Last week, on 13-15 October, colleagues from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń visited NOVA University Lisbon for a study visit within the YERUNITY project. 🤝

The visit brought together colleagues from both universities to exchange good practices in supporting researchers throughout the research lifecycle - from identifying funding opportunities and developing proposals to managing projects and turning research results into practical applications.

💡 We also explored Open Science, research data management, international cooperation and ways to create a supportive environment for research careers. Technology transfer, entrepreneurship and collaboration with industry were also on the agenda.

Through presentations, interactive discussions and peer learning, we compared our institutional approaches and explored ideas that could help us further develop research support at NCU.

A big thank you to our colleagues at NOVA for their warm welcome, openness and willingness to share their expertise. We returned with fresh perspectives, new connections and inspiration for our next steps! ✨

This year's Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Canadian writer Anne Carson, known for her poetry and essays. The choice of the 123rd laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature is commented on by Professor Mirosława Buchholtz from the Faculty of Humanities at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

This year's Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Anne Carson. The Swedish Academy recognised her "for her bold and inventive writing, which, through playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms of contemporary literature." It is worth adding that the name of this Canadian writer, born in 1950, has appeared on lists of favourites for the award for several years.

Navanethem "Navi" Pillay was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her work for peace and international law. Dr hab. Agnieszka Szpak, NCU Prof. Szpak from the Faculty of Political Science and Security Studies is talking about the Nobel Committee's decision.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, a former judge at, amongst others, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Court, for "her efforts to promote peace and international law". The Committee points out that "Navi" Pillay's commitment to universal principles of law and her unwavering moral compass have been constant features of her long career. […] Navi Pillay has held states and political leaders to account and offered hope to victims of violence and conflict. In all the posts she has held, she has emphasised the responsibility of individuals and states to uphold the rule of law".

The second day of the YERUN General Assembly is now behind us.
A highlight of the program was a presentation by dr habil. Dominik Antonowicz, NCU Prof., and Head of the Department of Science and Higher Education Research at the NCU Institute of Sociology.

“Young Science”, with a particular focus on the participation of students and doctoral candidates in research, is one of the main topics discussed during the event. Participants are exploring how to create conditions for their active involvement in research projects and how to develop research-based education.
