The University of Puerto Rico School of Pharmacy’s primary mission is to prepare pharmacists who will serve and improve the health-related needs of society, with special emphasis on the population of Puerto Rico. Among its goals are to foster the integration of knowledge based on professional practice

experience in a systematic ability based curriculum which incorporates the following areas: biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, behavioral, social and administrative pharmacy sciences; pharmacy practice and general education. The School offers programs at the professional and graduate levels targeted to improve the effective and safe use of medications. In addition, the School promotes excellence in education, research and service in an environment of respect and commitment. The School offers the following academic programs: Doctor of Pharmacy Program, Graduate Programs (Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences) and Pharmacy Residency Programs. Services provided by the School include a Medication Therapy Management Clinic, the Pharmacy Museum and Medicinal Plants Garden, and the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies, among others.

Frances Marín Maldonado and Marie Matos Hernández are the first graduates from the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program at the School. Their contributions to research, discovery, and the advancement of healthcare embody the mission and vision of our institution.

School of Pharmacy, Medical Sciences Campus, UPR Doctor of Pharmacy Program alumni Ashley N. Adorno Digiallonardo and Ivanna Gómez Padilla continue to expand their careers in pharmacy.

Dr. Adorno was admitted to the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Altamonte Springs in Florida, while Dr. Gómez accepted a position as PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Resident at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Our alumni are examples of excellence and commitment in patient care. Congratulations on your new professional endeavors!

School of Pharmacy, Medical Sciences Campus, UPR students and faculty continuously take part in prevention activities throughout Puerto Rico. This semester, members of the University of Puerto Rico APhA-ASP Chapter participated in two "Health in Your Hands" events coordinated by the Puerto Rico Department of Health in Bayamón and Gurabo. Also, fourth year Doctor of Pharmacy student Edwin Ortiz presented on the subject of "Medication Management and Polypharmacy in Blind Patients" at an event sponsored by the Puerto Rican Association for the Blind Inc. and the MSC Graduate School of Public Health.

Our School continues to make our communities healthier through education and collaborative efforts.

School of Pharmacy, Medical Sciences Campus, UPR alum Gilda M. Abad Caro is the Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Hospital Universitario de Adultos within the Puerto Rico Department of Health and has served as Preceptor for students at the School for over 25 years. She has a successful career in patient care and leads multidisciplinary teams in the hospital scenario.
