🌏✈️My Exchange Semester at RWTH Aachen
Last winter, I spent a semester studying Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.

🇩🇪Why Germany?
I’ve always been interested in energy, sustainability, and how industries work across borders. Germany felt like the perfect place to see these topics up close, and to challenge myself to adapt, communicate across cultures, and solve problems on my own.

⭐️Life at RWTH
Aachen sits in western Germany, right next to Belgium and the Netherlands. RWTH is one of Germany’s leading technical universities, known for engineering, energy, and sustainability, with strong ties to industry. With students from all over the world, every day was a chance to see how people from different backgrounds think and work.

👩🏻‍🏫In the classroom
I took three courses: Energy Economics, Sustainable Supply Chains, and A2 German. Classes combined lectures with professors and hands-on exercise sessions with teaching assistants. Most courses were graded on a single final exam, which meant learning to manage my own studying.
My favorite was Sustainable Supply Chains. In a team of five, we used OpenLCA software to carry out a life cycle assessment of a product and write a full report. I was really impressed by how organized and efficient my European teammates were. We didn’t always see eye to eye, but working through those differences taught me a lot about teamwork across cultures.

💟What I took away
Living somewhere English isn’t the local language meant even simple tasks took extra effort and creativity. Those daily challenges made me more resilient, more alert, and more confident in handling the unexpected.

💡Tips for future exchange students
✅ Research everything early, from paperwork and housing to daily life, and learn some German before you go
✅ Book appointments for every administrative step in advance
✅ On travel days, plan your route and get to the airport early, especially in Germany 🚆
Thank you to NTHU IMBA and RWTH Aachen for this unforgettable experience!

📝 This week, we welcomed back NTHU IMBA alumnus Lakshay Sachdeva for our Career Strategy Workshop. A few years ago, Lakshay was sitting in the same classrooms as us. Today he works in Taiwan and is a permanent resident through the Gold Card, so who better to talk about building a career here? 🇹🇼

➡️ We started by introducing ourselves in just 30 seconds: who we are, something we’re proud of, what we want, and how we can help others. It sounds easy, but it made us realize how important it is to know our own story. 🤝

🎯 Then we got hands-on with real job descriptions from companies in Taiwan like TSMC, ASML, Intel and Shopee, and practiced interview questions in pairs. Along the way, Lakshay shared tips from his own experience: how to prepare for interviews, how to explain our ideas clearly, and how to stand out as candidates instead of just sending another CV.

🔑 One key takeaway: you don’t need to meet every requirement to apply. What matters is having real stories that show what you can do.

Thank you, Lakshay, for coming back to share your journey and for showing us that a career in Taiwan is possible with the right preparation. 💜✨

2026.10.13 📖
📝This week, we welcomed Andy Tuan from Flagship International Ltd. to share his inspiring career journey from a student with engineering degree to a founder of consultant company.

➨Using the concept of an odyssey, he illustrated how our careers are lifelong journeys filled with crossroads🚥, unexpected changes, and opportunities for growth. His experiences reminded us that feeling lost in the early stages of our careers is natural. Instead of rushing to find all the answers, we should explore our interests, recognize our strengths, and remain open to new possibilities.

🔑One key takeaway was the importance of regularly reflecting on our lives and maintaining balance among career, health, relationships, personal growth, and giving back to society.

Thank you, Andy Tuan, for reminding us that we are the captains of our own career journeys and can shape our paths through continuous learning and thoughtful decisions.💟✨

💡 In this week’s seminar, “The Symphony of Finance and Technology,” Assistant Professor Alex Lin—from the Department of Quantitative Finance and Co-founder of Bluesky Capital—offered an insightful perspective on how technology is reshaping the financial landscape. We explored how the true purpose of FinTech extends far beyond merely enhancing speed or convenience.

🌐 This session highlighted the pivotal role of the internet and digital networks in evolving traditional banking into more accessible and seamless financial services. It effectively demonstrated how technology bridges people, information, and financial systems in ways that conventional banking alone never could.

⚖️ IMBA recently held a seminar on "Understanding Taiwan's Laws for International Students," aiming to help students from around the world learn the legal basics they need to live safely and happily in Taiwan. 🌏

🚲 At the start of the seminar, lecturer Gary reminded everyone that Taiwan's regulations are updated frequently, so it is important to stay informed and follow the rules. For example, riding an electric scooter or a bicycle after drinking alcohol is prohibited, and you can be fined even if you have only started the vehicle. 🚫🍺

🪪 He also stressed that your Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and work permit are the most important documents for international students, so please make sure they are complete and valid at all times to avoid breaking the law.

⚠️ Gary also warned that scams in Taiwan are becoming more sophisticated and are hard to spot. Email, text messages, and online shopping are common traps. 📧📱🛒 If you come across an unfamiliar website or message, stop and think before you click, or you could suffer a financial loss. If you encounter anything suspicious, you can call Taiwan's 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline for advice. ☎️

📸 After the seminar, everyone happily took photos with Gary, and IMBA shared egg yolk pastries with the students, a sweet way to celebrate the international students' first cultural event in Taiwan. 🥮🎉

🎉 Great News! 🎉

Yasmine from Saint Lucia 🇱🇨, a student in our IMBA program, has been awarded the ICDF Intensive Scholarship for the 2nd Semester of Academic Year 114! 👏

This award recognizes ICDF scholarship recipients for their outstanding academic and overall performance during their time at school. When Yasmine heard the news, she was absolutely thrilled! 😲

She shared that life in Taiwan comes with its challenges, but also plenty of warmth ❤️ Although the coursework is demanding, she has made a group of close friends in IMBA who have made this journey even more memorable.

At the award presentation, with encouragement from Director Eric, Yasmine happily received her certificate! 📜✨

Congrats, Yasmine! Keep up the great work. We're so proud of you! 💪

2026.09.29 📖
This week, we had a guest speaker from Aurica Circular, the CEO and Co-Founder of the company. She has a background in physics and is also an NTHU alumna. Her seminar was titled “The Devil Wears Prada 2: From Workplace Drama to Strategic Leadership “

The interactive approach she used was really interesting. Instead of simply giving a lecture, she introduced a card game using animal character cards. We were divided into groups of five to six people and asked to choose animal characters that represented the personalities we observed in our group members.👩‍💻🧑‍💼 This activity encouraged us to think about how others perceive us and helped us recognize characteristics that we may not notice about ourselves.

After the first section, we discussed different perceptions of leadership and what true leadership means in the workplace. The section describes that leadership is not simply about having a position or giving instructions. It also involves understanding people, recognizing different personalities, and being aware of how others perceive us.
