October Was All About Filling Every Seat!

October was a BUSY month for Albany Technical College Adult Education! Under our “Fill Every Seat” initiative, we TRIPLED our recruitment efforts, getting out into our communities and spreading the word about the opportunities available through Adult Education!

From health fairs and fall festivals to career fairs, community events, and Trunk or Treat celebrations, our team was EVERYWHERE!

With 13 recruitment opportunities across Southwest Georgia, we made connections, built relationships, and reminded our communities that it’s never too late to finish what you started!

👏🏽 A huge THANK YOU to our dedicated staff who gave their time, including evenings and weekends, to help us reach more potential students. Your commitment to our mission does not go unnoticed!

🎓✨ Strengthening Pathways to Student Success!

Last week, Albany Technical College Adult Education Executive Director Lashea Dancer and Career Plus High School Coordinator Brittany Dees attended the 2026 Student Affairs Summit, hosted by the Technical College System of Georgia.

The summit provided a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the state, exchange ideas, and explore strategies to strengthen our Career Plus High School Program.

Sessions focused on student success, financial aid, effective communication, accreditation, and best practices for supporting students pursuing their high school diplomas.

💡 Our goal is simple: remove barriers, create opportunities, and help more students earn their high school diplomas while preparing for college and careers!

Finish Line Math Boot Camp = SUCCESS!

Our Adult Education students put in the work this weekend! Students spent Friday evening and Saturday morning immersed in math, strengthening their skills and preparing to cross the finish line on the GED Math exam.

Mrs. Stacy Harvey led the charge Friday evening and was joined Saturday by Dr. Patricia Pierce, giving our students focused instruction, encouragement, and support.

And the hard work paid off! 🎉 Three students passed the MATH portion of the GED🎓👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

🍽️ Dinner and lunch were provided through generous private donations, and congratulations to Tremane Johnson, our iPad giveaway winner! 📱🎉

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this Boot Camp possible—our instructors, donors, staff, and everyone who supported and encouraged our students. This is what happens when we come together with one goal: student success! ❤️

This week, members of the Albany Technical College Adult Education team attended the Adult Education Conference in Atlanta, where they connected with peers from across the state, participated in workshops, shared ideas, and discussed strategies for strengthening Adult Education programs.

Our team returned with a wealth of information, fresh ideas, and new strategies that we can put into action to better serve our students and continue strengthening our program. 💡🎓

Professional development matters because when our staff continues to learn and grow, our students benefit!

🏆📚 Day 5: Celebrating Our Literacy Champions! 📚🏆

As we close out National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, we’re celebrating another Literacy Champion—Tyree Tyson!

Last year, Tyree enrolled in Albany Technical College Adult Education at our Lee County site and, in just a short time, successfully completed her GED. 🎓👏🏽

But she didn’t stop there! Tyree continued her journey at Albany Technical College, completed the Salon and Spa Support Specialist Certificate, and is now enrolled in the Cosmetology for Licensure Certificate program, continuing to work toward her career goals.

Tyree’s journey is a great example of what Adult Education is all about: earn the credential, discover a pathway, and keep moving forward!

We are proud to recognize Tyree Tyson as one of our Day 5 Literacy Champions! 💙

🏆📚 Day 5: Celebrating Literacy Champions!

As we close out National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, we’re celebrating Literacy Champions—individuals whose stories demonstrate the life-changing power of education and who continue to inspire others to reach their goals.

Our Literacy Champion, Sandra Sutton, Albany Technical College Retention Coordinator, knows the Adult Education journey firsthand. Sandra earned her GED through Adult Education and continued pushing forward, ultimately earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees! 🎓

Today, she uses her experience to encourage and support other students along their educational journeys. Her story is a powerful reminder that literacy opens doors, education creates opportunities, and your starting point does not have to determine your destination.

We are proud to celebrate Sandra and all Literacy Champions who encourage, empower, and inspire others through education! 👏🏽
