In Apparel Textiles, styled presented their project-based learning endeavor - angel gowns. Students demonstrated their capabilities for research, critical thinking, questioning, marketing analysis, pattern selection, budget development, textile testing, garment construction, documentation and analysis of their own work, and of course, presentation skills.

This special experiential learning endeavor permits students to serve our community through the creation of these tiny gowns. The completed angel gowns will be given to a local hospital to support families in their time of loss.

Apparel Textiles students learned about weaving as a fabrication process. For a class activity, students created a woven sample, utilizing donated upholstry fabrics.

The purpose was to implement a real-world application to further students' understanding of woven fabrications through experiential learning - the development of a plain weave. An additional goal was to incorporate sustainability by foraging our donations stash - thus, also accomplishing waste diversion, resource conservation, and creative problem-solving for pre-existing materials.

Fashion Stying Processes students continued their practice of color analysis. Students enjoyed utilizing our color drapes. This time around, students worked to determine each other's color season and appropriate subseason for their peers.

Fashion History students learned about Highland dress as part of the lecture. Students practiced the process of wearing a belted plaid, the predecessor to the kilt. We made do with the fabrics and belts we had. It was a great learning experience for students!

Fashion and Ceramics students met a third time as a large group to work on their collaborative project.

Ceramics students revealed the progress they had made, showcasing pieces that had been shaped, textured, and stained. Fashion students were able to get involved by assisting in creating drill holes and applying glazes to prep pieces for the final firing process.

Students in Apparel Textiles continued their project-based learning endeavor for angel gowns. The tiny patterns were placed strategically on the wedding dresses and then the pieces were cut out. Students begin the process of constructing angel gowns.

This special experiential learning endeavor permits students to serve our community through the creation of these tiny gowns. The completed angel gowns will be given to a local hospital to support families in their time of loss.

We are grateful that Erica Cole came to visit with us and shared her story and expertise! Students gained insights into developing a fashion business around a design challenge, human-centered product development, educational marketing to reach customers, and so much more.
