Lunch is right down the block.

Today we stopped by Mr. Burrito Grill, a local spot near Fletcher Hall with solid portions and plenty options at a good price. Burritos, bowls, quesadillas, tacos — you name it, they probably have it.

It’s an easy go-to when you want something filling, close to campus and worth the walk.

What local lunch spot should we try next?

Starting college comes with a lot to learn, but you don't have to figure it out alone. From your first day forward, we're here to help you find your people, build confidence and take the next step.

Here are a few tips from students who have been in your shoes.

If you're an incoming freshman or transfer student, what questions do you have before your first semester at UTC?

Networking does not have to feel forced.

The goal is not just to collect connections. It is about building real relationships, asking better questions and staying connected beyond the first conversation.

Your network can open doors, but you have to make the first move.

Start small. Reach out to a classmate, professor, alum or professional this week and start the conversation.

What advice do you have for students starting to interview for internships and jobs?

Business major. Marching band. Carnegie Hall. Full-time job lined up after graduation.

Anna Grace Stone made the most of her UTC experience by finding her people, showing up for opportunities and building a path that brought together business, music and community.

From the Gary W. Rollins College of Business to stage at Carnegie Hall with the the UTC Wind Ensemble, she’s proof that your college experience does not have to fit into a box.

Marketing looks different depending on where you are and AMA students got to see that firsthand.

This semester, students visited the Chattanooga Zoo and Tennessee Aquarium to explore how storytelling, social media and strategy drive audience engagement across industries.

From promoting exhibits to building brand awareness, experiences like these turn classroom concepts into real-world connections and show students where a business degree can take them.

Accounting major Jackson Kuffrey earned the title of Tennessee State Champion in Microsoft Excel through the Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam. Even bigger? This marks the third time an RCOB student has claimed the state title.

And RCOB didn’t stop there. Our students earned nine out of the top 10 spots statewide.

1st — Jackson Kuffrey
2nd — Matalin Wallace
3rd — Emily McCurry
4th — Alexis Henry
5th — Weston Matthews
7th — Elora Hill
8th — Chelsea Gossage
9th — Ella French
10th — Alex Hetzler

Big moves from our Phillips Scholars.

The Phillips Scholarship recognizes students committed to leadership, entrepreneurship, economic freedom and the ideas that shape innovation and opportunity.

Programs like this challenge students to think critically, lead confidently and explore principles that influence business and society beyond the classroom.

Congrats to our 2026-2027 Phillips Scholars.

Finance is on the golf course. Marketing has a camera roll full of “content ideas.” Management color-codes everything. Entrepreneurship accidentally starts a side hustle. You get the idea.

We matched RCOB students with their off-the-clock personalities, and some of these are a little too accurate.

Are we missing any hobbies? Let us know in the comments below.

Shout-out to Ethan Tidwell, double major in finance and accounting, for landing a summer internship with JPMorgan in New York City. While it wasn't a specific goal for Ethan, his hard work and involvement in the SMILE Fund led to this prestigious opportunity.

“With UTC, you don’t get the instant ticket but you get a stage," he said. "You can perform, you can do what you want, you can learn and you have the resources to do everything. We have better ways to learn, especially with the Bloomberg Lab.”
