UTC GATP Curriculum Objectives:

-Critical Thinking Skills: Development of critical thinking skills that will guide future clinical practice and foster commitment to lifelong continuing education.

-Evidence-based Learning: Provision of classroom instruction that emphasizes scientific foundations for clinical theories and evidence-based clinical decision-making as they relate to entry level compet

encies.

-Quality Clinical Education: Provision of clinical education experiences that develop clinical proficiencies in AT. Diverse Clinical Opportunities: Expand opportunities for students to obtain clinical experience in industrial worksites and corporate health promotion programs.

-Evidence-based Practice: Integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values and circumstances to make decisions about the care of individual patients.

-Communication Skills: Development of the ability to effectively communicate with both written and oral presentations.

-Technology/Health Care Informatics: The use of information technology to manage clinical data and access the most recent evidence pertaining to optimum patient care.

-Health Care Delivery and Finance: Facilitation of student understanding of the athletic trainerโ€™s evolving role within the U.S. health care delivery system.

-Continuous Quality Improvement: Recognition of the need for constant self-evaluation and life-long learning, including the ability to identify a quality improvement objective, specify changes that are expected to produce an improvement, and quantitatively confirm that an improvement resulted from implementation of the change.

-Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Provide opportunities for interaction with students from different disciplines that will promote development of problem-solving skills.

-Applied Research: Development of the ability to assist, interpret, and report research that will advance the practice of athletic training.

-Professional Conduct: Cultivation of a strong commitment to a high standard of ethical conduct and professional excellence. Personal qualities of honesty, reliability, accountability, patience, modesty, and self-control. Exhibited through ethical behavior, a respectful demeanor toward all persons, compassion, a willingness to serve others, sensitivity to the concerns of diverse patient populations, a conscientious approach to performance of duties, a commitment to continuing education, contributions to the body of knowledge in the discipline, appropriate dress, and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.

-Leadership: Empowerment of students to assume leadership roles in future professional endeavors.

-Professional Opportunities: Promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship to foster expansion of professional opportunities within the athletic training field.

It's football time in Tennessee! The Class of 2028 hit the ground running with UTC Sports Medicine orientation yesterday and football today! Four c/o 2027 students, Katie, Camryn, Jackson, and Kiley, are completing clinicals with FB this year as well. They will be fantastic mentors, models, and clinicians!

The applications of research at UTC range from quantum and the automotive industry to Tennesseeโ€™s rivers and streams, and even to track, field and hardwood.

Dr. Jenny Hogg, an athletic training professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance, aims to help athletes perform at their best. Using augmented reality and machine learning, Hoggโ€™s research examines athletesโ€™ biomechanical performance and methods to improve it.

โ€œMy research marries hip, knee and ankle biomechanics,โ€ Hogg said. โ€œExamining joints and angles where youโ€™re moving your hip in a way thatโ€™s good for your knee and vice versa.โ€
