Benton Chapel is filled with students again! Students, faculty, staff and guests gathered in Benton Chapel for a time of worship and prayer during our Opening Convocation. As part of the service, Dean Pierce challenged students to pray without ceasing.

"If you pray without ceasing, what starts to happen is that you notice that the ordinary moments are infused with the holy, with the sacred," she shared. "Doing the modules, writing the paper, taking the exam, doing your field education practicum, sitting with your colleagues at lunch — that also becomes holy.”

Please welcome our newest doctor of ministry students!

The D.Min. in Integrative Chaplaincy reimagines the chaplain’s role in today’s care systems by blending research-informed insights and evidence-based practices with the art of spiritual care. The incoming class joined us on campus last week for the first of three intensives as part of their hybrid program.

Last Friday, at Congregation Micah, Dean Pierce joined Julie Greenberg and others for a special Shabbat in the Round welcoming the first Shabbat of Elul through storytelling, reflection, and interfaith connection.

Drawing from her book, In My Grandmother’s House, Dean Pierce reflected on the theological themes of her childhood and the experiences that shaped her journey as a womanist theologian, pastor, teacher, and mother.

Grounded in shared Jewish texts and the sacred practice of holy rest, this meaningful evening invited participants to reflect on stories of struggle and strength—and the promise of what is possible when we gather across faith traditions in community.

“I left inspired. More connected to my community, and more connected to the legacy of the land on which we live and the spirit that moved and still moves within and among us to align social conditions more fully with our inherent collective dignity and belonging.” — Stephanie Schacht, BA ’04

Stephanie Schacht was among the community members who participated in a Civil
Rights Tour of significant sites across Nashville. Hosted by James Lawson Institute for the Research and Study of Nonviolent Movements, the tour included visits to Fisk University, First Baptist Church Capitol Hill, and the Nashville Public Library's Civil Rights Room among others.

Participants explored the rich history of Nashville's Civil Rights Movement while
reflecting on the enduring legacy of nonviolent resistance, community organizing, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.
