The SIUE Archaeology Field School is officially over! We had a busy last two weeks, including field trips (Modoc Rockshelter pictured), completing excavations, backfilling, flotation, and lab work. We had a great group of students and a very successful season!

Week 4 of our archaeology field school wrapped up with programs for Girl Scouts and Scouting USA. These scouts learned mapping, excavating, screening, and had some fun learning to use atlatls and play chunkey!

Week 2 of the Archaeology Field School involved new progress on excavations and a little fun! Dr. Adriana Martinez brought her Environmental Science students out for a drone mapping exercise, and our students visited Cahokia!

The 2026 Archaeology Field School is officially underway!

Week 1 consisted of teamwork-building equipment construction, transit training, grid and site set up, and initial excavations. We are excited to see what Week 2 has in store!
