Congratulations to Elizabeth (Liz) Budd, PhD, MPH, and her team on receiving $3.64 million from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)!

Liz is a nationally recognized scholar of public health, health promotion and health equity. This innovative study aims to strengthen a physical activity prescription intervention for adolescents and address persistent implementation barriers that have limited previous trials.

Her team of co-investigators includes Leslie Leve, Nichole Kelly, Anne Marie Mauricio, and Derek Kosty.

Professor Ilana Umansky’s work, alongside QRME PhD student Havisha Khurana, helped shape California’s new English learner reclassification law, updating a policy that had been in place for 50 years.

Before California simplified its rules, English learners had to pass a locally set "basic skills" test to reclassify as English-proficient—on top of meeting language proficiency benchmarks.
