Summer in the Department is a bit more relaxed but you will still find professors hard at work. One current project of mine is creating a booklet for students that begins to chronologically categorize building structural systems, materials, and aesthetics in the Fredericksburg region. The initial draft will be a work in progress, something to building upon each year...regardless here are some fun drawings of eaves in the area from c. 1737 until 1858 as I delve into that topic.

A recent foray into the MESDA collection, https://mesda.org/ , got me thinking about a discussion Noel Harrison and I had some time back about the oldest building representation (showing an elevation) here in the Fredericksburg vicinity. The best I think that we came up with was a c. 1790 representation of Clifton in Spotsylvania Co., VA. Checkout the full object metadata here at the Spotsylvania County Museum webpage, https://www.spotsylvania.va.us/1565/Search-Collections .
