Hordes of gleeful trick or treaters swarmed the halls of the CON yesterday, reliving their childhoods and filling bags with candy. Unexpectedly, a haunted forest grew overnight, taking over a first floor conference room.

Associate Professor Yamnia Cortés represented the Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing Council on the writing group of a recent American Heart Association statement. The statement, State of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke in Hispanic/Latino Adults in the United States, synthesizes the evidence on important disparities, risk factors, and gaps in care, says Cortés. It will serve as a key reference document that helps clinicians understand emerging evidence, identify best practices, and inform patient care.

“One of the most important aspects is that it emphasizes culturally informed approaches to prevention and treatment," says Cortés, “which can help improve cardiovascular outcomes in a growing and diverse population.”

Let's hear it for Julie Vignato, Anita Nicholson, and Carver College of Medicine colleagues Teresa Horak, Amber Goodrich, and Lastasica Coleman who, along with Emily Shier and Meagan Thompson, received the Nursing Education Perspectives Innovation Center award for their article "The Interdisciplinary Doula Project: Innovations in Nursing Clinical Education"! Vignato accepted the award on behalf of the team at the National League for Nursing 2026 Summit.

We are excited to share that DNP student Ana Spooner and PhD student Angela Shanahan have been selected by Jonas Philanthropies and American Association of Colleges of Nursing for the 2026-2028 cohort of Jonas Scholars!

As two of the 80 doctoral nursing students from 30 states in this cohort, Spooner and Shanahan will learn from national leaders, build a network of forward-thinking peers, and apply grounded and innovative strategies to help address the nation's nursing faculty shortage and strengthen the future of nursing education.
