The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics is proud to celebrate Dr. Kevin Campbell's receipt of the 2026 August M. Watanabe Prize in Translational Research.

Awarded by the Indiana University School of Medicine, the Watanabe Prize is one of the nation's most prestigious honors recognizing researchers whose discoveries have been translated into advances that improve human health. The award commemorates the legacy of August M. Watanabe, a pioneering leader in translational research at both Indiana University and Eli Lilly and Company.

As part of this recognition, Dr. Campbell visited Eli Lilly and Indiana University, where he delivered invited lectures and met with scientists, trainees, and research leaders. These visits provided an opportunity to share the discoveries and innovations that have emerged from decades of research in the Campbell Lab and their impact on patients with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases.

This distinguished honor recognizes Dr. Campbell's extraordinary contributions to translational science and reflects the lasting impact of the research, training, and collaborations fostered within our department. Congratulations, Kevin!

Drs. Mike Anderson, Charles Harata, and Chris Ahern recently participated in the 2026 Medical Student Research Conference, where they mentored students and provided valuable feedback to help strengthen their research presentations.

A special congratulations to Daniel Akinremi on his podium presentation, “pH-Mediated Changes in Antiarrhythmic Efficacy,” and on receiving the Research Excellence in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics Award. Daniel was mentored by Drs. Chris Ahern and Barry London.
