This is good news for our military students. We are proud to be part of The Texas A&M University System.

The Board of Regents has committed up to $90 million over three years to help A&M System universities honor the state’s Hazlewood promise while protecting the financial strength of campuses that serve Texas veterans.

The new Hazlewood Veteran Initiative will provide up to $30 million annually from the Available University Fund beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. The money will help member universities offset tuition and mandatory fee revenue they forego when educating eligible veterans.

Biology professor Dr. Laura Weiser Erlandson received the Distinguished Achievement in Teaching award from the Entomological Society of America in June. A lover of students, education, and all creepy crawlies, Erlandson shares her passion for life in the classroom.

When Erlandson, Ph.D., accepted a teaching position in the A&M–Central Texas , the university's first building had been standing less than five years.
