Tardy. In 1944, the name was changed to East Texas Baptist College when we reached four year status, and again in 1984 when we reached University status. This is for all Alums to know what it happening on the Hill. Here is to our next 100 years!

We love seeing a Family of Tigers! 🐯💛

Three generations of this family have called ETBU home, creating a legacy that spans decades. It all began with Charles ('61) and Sara (Aten) Ethridge ('61). Their daughter, Anna (Ethridge) Shuman ('85), continued the tradition and married fellow Tiger Larry Shuman ('86). Their daughter, Lauren (Shuman) Luetchford ('09), proudly became the third generation to walk the Hill.

"Going to ETBU was like joining a family legacy. Getting to experience similar memories as my parents and grandparents was so surreal. I made lifelong friends, helped shape future Tigers, and had the best time. I even met my husband while at ETBU! He's a LeTourneau graduate, but we met while planning a joint concert. My time on the Hill helped make me the person I am today, and I will forever be grateful for and cherish my time at ETBU. Forever a Tiger!" — Lauren (Shuman) Luetchford ('09)

Mrs. Lauren (McCollum) Vaughan (’18) earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing during her time on the hill. Since then, she has been a proud member of the team at Willis-Knighton North in Shreveport Louisiana, where she is currently serving as the Patient Care Coordinator of Infection Prevention and Control.

“ETBU prepared me with both knowledge and faith-driven perspective. Academically, ETBU gave me a strong foundation for nursing, but more than that, it shaped how I show up in my work. In healthcare, especially in high-stress areas, you’re consistently in situations where people are vulnerable and your decisions matter. ETBU helped me learn how to lead with compassion and integrity, stay grounded in my values, and remember that people always come first.”

Some friendships begin on the Hill and last a lifetime.

ETBU best friends Heidi (Dishman) Young (’07), Katy (Dison) Roberts (’06), and Dr. Christy (Shipley) Gipson (‘07) recently purchased a commemorative brick in the Quad to celebrate the lifelong friendship they formed as students at ETBU.

Their brick is a lasting reminder that the relationships built on the Hill continue to impact lives long after graduation.
