Tardy. In 1944, the name was changed to East Texas Baptist College when we reached four year status, and again in 1984 when we reached University status. This is for all Alums to know what it happening on the Hill. Here is to our next 100 years!

Before ETBU was ETBU, it was The College of Marshall. 🧡

Founded from the dream of community leaders, pastors, and educators who believed East Texas needed a place for Christian higher education, the campus began taking shape on “a beautiful hill near the heart of the City of Marshall.” What started as a vision in the early 1900s became a lasting legacy that continues to shape students’ lives today.

More than a century later, it’s incredible to walk the same halls, study on the same hill, and continue the story they worked so hard to begin. 🐯

The faces may change, but the heart of Marshall Hall remains the same.

🐯Hidden behind the walls of Linebery Hall was a little piece of ETBU history.

As renovations began and the old bunk beds came down, we discovered notes, pictures, memories, and little reminders of the students who once called Linebery Hall home.

Decades of laughter, friendship, prayers, late-night talks, and Tiger memories were tucked away behind those walls just waiting to be found.

This reel of the treasures found is a glimpse into the stories and sisterhood that have filled Linebery Hall through the years.

From the Hill to the pulpit, God is doing incredible things through Dr. Mark Penick (’02) and Starrla (Ainsworth) Penick (’03).

Mark is serving as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in Brandon, Florida—leading with passion, purpose, and a heart for people. 🙌

Through his calling, lives are being transformed people are coming to faith, families are being restored, and believers are growing deeper in their walk with Christ. What a powerful reminder of the impact of the local church!

🎓 At ETBU, he was equipped both spiritually and practically—double majoring in Biblical Studies and Business, preparing him not only for ministry but for leadership. From seminary to shepherding a church family, that foundation continues to make a difference every single day.

“It’s the lifelong privilege of a Pastor to walk alongside people through life’s highs and lows.”

We are so proud of the way Mark and Starrla are living out their calling and making an eternal impact!🐾 Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger.

Mr. John Pritchard (’05) completed his degree in Business here on the Hill.

“Looking back, Dr. Charles Williams, Dean of the Business School at that time, had a significant impact on my life. He brought a level of real-world experience and practicality that stood out. I appreciated his authenticity and perspective, and he later wrote me a letter of recommendation that helped me get into the MBA program at Texas A&M.”
