Wiley University alumni are out here making history, and we could not be more proud. Verdell and Shawn Welch Evans came into our MBA program with a vision and left in May 2026 with their degrees and a multimillion-dollar product called NAZELL that has already caught the attention of Shark Tank's Kevin Harrington and secured backing from national investors. This is the legacy of excellence we have always carried, and the Evans family is the latest proof of it. Shawn first walked through our doors in 2002 for her bachelor's degree, and now she and her husband are Wildcat MBA graduates with their daughter set to follow in 2027. That is not just a success story. That is a Wiley University family.

Our MBA program is not like everyone else's. It is built with an entrepreneurial focus that meets you where you are and pushes you further than you thought possible. The Evans did not just sit in a classroom. They refined their investor pitch, sharpened their business strategy, and presented their product to seasoned industry executives through our Strategic Management capstone. By the time they graduated, they were not just ready for the business world. They were already in it.

Join us this Saturday, June 13, on Wiley University’s campus for a day of culture, community, and celebration as we honor the history and legacy of Juneteenth. The day will include meaningful conversations, community activities, the parade, and opportunities to gather in fellowship.

We invite the Wiley University family and the greater Marshall community to come out and celebrate with us.

Wiley University is proud to help kick off the Marshall-Harrison County Juneteenth Celebration with a Financial Literacy Workshop presented by the Wiley University Financial Literacy and Wellness Center.

Join us on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel for an informative session featuring East Texas Professional Credit Union and Stacie Speaks Too. This workshop will cover financial literacy, money management, building and rebuilding credit, account life cycles, and protecting your assets while leaving a legacy.

This event is free and open to the community. We invite you to join us as we celebrate Juneteenth through education, empowerment, and community connection.

In 1873, our founders planted a college in the piney woods of East Texas and dared to teach the formerly enslaved to read. Today, SACSCOC has approved Wiley University as a Level V doctoral degree-granting institution.

Read that again. WILEY. UNIVERSITY. CONFERS. DOCTORATES.

Introducing the Executive Ph.D. in Business Administration, offered in three concentrations in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence & Business Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Faith-Based Administration. The program will be delivered over 24 months in an online executive format, anchored by intensive in-person residencies that draw accomplished leaders from across the nation to Marshall, Texas.

Wiley University is proud to share this article from the Higher Education Leadership Foundation, written by Dr. Jamal Watson, higher education consultant and professor at Trinity Washington University.

The article highlights H.E.L.F.’s inaugural “A Futurist Symposium: Mapping the Future for the HBCU,” hosted at Johnson C. Smith University. The two-day gathering brought together HBCU presidents, scholars, partners, and higher education leaders for important conversations about the future of Black higher education.

Wiley University President Dr. Herman J. Felton Jr., one of the founders of H.E.L.F., helped open the gathering by reminding leaders that this moment calls for more than reflection. It calls for vision, collaboration, and action.

From leadership preparation and fundraising to student success, workforce development, and long-term sustainability, the symposium centered the work needed to strengthen HBCUs now and for generations to come.

Wiley University joins the Sanders family and all who knew and loved Marlon Geron Sanders, Sr. in mourning his passing.

A recent graduate of our Higher Education program, Marlon was a gifted musician, educator, mentor, and coach whose life and work touched countless people. As an elementary school music teacher, he used music, encouragement, and compassion to uplift students and inspire young minds.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, students, colleagues, and loved ones during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Wiley University is proud to celebrate Morris Thomas, PhD, MBA, PMP, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, for authoring a chapter in the newly released Bloomsbury volume Students’ Sense of Belonging and Involvement in College: Key Insights from Research for Practice.

His chapter, “The Trifecta: The WHOLE Student Experience, Sense of Belonging, and Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs),” co-authored with Cindy Philpot, explores how HBCUs cultivate belonging through mentorship, affirmation, accountability, care, and transformational leadership.

This scholarship reflects Wiley University’s continued commitment to student success, HBCU research, and creating environments where students are seen, valued, and empowered to Go Forth Inspired.

Wiley University is proud to support the work of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation (H.E.L.F.) as it continues to create space for meaningful, data-informed conversations that strengthen HBCU leadership.

The latest H.E.L.F. article highlights candid conversations from the convening, where HBCU leaders examined the difference between governance and operational management, the importance of trust between presidents and boards, and the role strong leadership plays in helping institutions navigate challenge and change.

These conversations matter because the strength of HBCUs depends not only on vision, but on the people, partnerships, and governance structures that help that vision move forward.
