Not all the magic at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival happens on stage for our students it happens behind the scenes. Our Audio Production students, under the guidance of Professor Michael Fleming, spent the festival mixing live audio for the Hulu broadcast, putting classroom skills into practice on one of the biggest stages in live entertainment. Experiences like these are what make the Recording Industry program truly unique.

𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐈𝐌 𝟒𝟐𝟏𝟎!
𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 being offered in Fall 2026 and is designed specifically for the craft of songwriting. Commercial Songwriting students can take this course in place of RIM 3300, and it is also available as an elective for Recording Industry and Audio Production students.
This blended, hands-on lab course combines the flexibility of online learning with in-person instruction:

Our students gain access to internships, industry connections, and career opportunities because they learn from faculty who are still actively working the media and entertainment industry alongside their teaching roles.

Recently, Professor Odie Blackmon arranged an internship interview and lunch with Chip Mathews, the CMA and ACM Award-winning producer for Luke Combs, for grad students Viljar Roysi and David Jaque Pulido. Experiences like these bridge the gap from classroom learning into real-world career opportunities.

Our Audio Production students spent the weekend working live production for artists they know and love, gaining hands-on experience in one of the country's largest music festivals. Real shows. Real crowds. Real experience. Plus, they earned course credit while doing it.

For the 10th year, students from the MTSU Scott Borchetta College of Media and Entertainment are heading to Bonnaroo, where they'll spend long days behind cameras, in production trucks, mixing audio and creating live content alongside industry professionals.

This isn't observation — it's real work. Students gain hands-on experience in one of the country's largest music festivals, building the skills, confidence and connections that help launch careers in live entertainment, touring, broadcasting and production.

In fact, alumni who once worked Bonnaroo as students have gone on to careers producing concerts, festivals and major world tours.

Experiential learning isn't just part of the curriculum here — it's where careers begin.

MTSU Recording Industry students stepped into one of Nashville's premier professional recording environments, working at Curb Studios alongside industry professionals to bring original songs to life.

Through hands-on sessions led by Professors Odie Blackmon and Bill Crabtree, students gained firsthand experience navigating the fast-paced world of commercial songwriting and recording — collaborating with professional musicians, learning studio etiquette, and seeing their creative visions transformed into finished recordings.
