Last night, Notre Dame Law School's decanal delegation hosted “An Evening in Rio with Dean G. Marcus Cole” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, bringing together Notre Dame Law alumni, faculty, and senior leadership for an evening of conversation and hors d'oeuvres. Among the alumni in attendance were Ricardo Araujo ’20 LL.M., Lee DeJulius ’02 J.D., Matheus Lima ’19 LL.M., and Patrick Manion ’18 J.D.

During his remarks, Dean Cole expressed his gratitude to our partner institution, FGV Rio, and highlighted the significance of our upcoming joint conference on AI and the Future of the Legal Profession.

“I think this conference is going to lead to ideas and conversations that will change the landscape of both legal education but also the practice of law,” said Dean Cole. “I think we'll learn from each other, but more importantly, we'll learn what we're doing in this space.”

Dean Cole also thanked the Notre Dame Law alumni in attendance for their continued support and for “making an important contribution to what we're trying to accomplish here.” We are proud to see our Notre Dame Lawyers making an impact around the world while continuing to advance Notre Dame Law School's mission.

Dean Cole shared these words at last night's welcome reception for Notre Dame Law School's decanal delegation to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Several Notre Dame Law faculty members will participate in the AI and the Future of the Legal Profession conference this week, exploring the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, particularly its use in the practice of law. The conference is jointly organized by Notre Dame Law School and our partner institution, Fundação Getulio Vargas Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV Rio Law).

We look forward to leading discussions and exchanging perspectives with representatives from leading law firms, the judiciary, technology companies, AI platforms, and prominent academic institutions around the world. We are grateful for our continued collaboration with FGV Rio Law!

Reggie Dillard, a client of the Notre Dame Exoneration Justice Clinic, was exonerated in February 2026 after spending 27 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Dillard spoke with South Bend-area news outlets about a federal lawsuit he recently filed against the City of Elkhart and the State of Indiana.
