Earlier this month, we were delighted to celebrate the formal dedication of the Jenkins Center for Virtue Ethics. Named after Notre Dame’s 17th president and distinguished philosopher, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., the Center supports ethical research, course development, and education in service of moral formation and advancing the common good.

We are so grateful for Fr. John’s legacy of virtuous leadership and to the many benefactors whose support made the Jenkins Center possible. As our director, Meghan Sullivan, shared at the dedication, the Center ensures that Notre Dame’s commitment to the rigorous study and practice of virtue ethics—our exploration of what it means to live a moral and good life—will only continue to grow!

ND-IBM Tech Ethics Lab Program Chair Paul Scherz recently joined AI and Faith to discuss his co-edited book, "Reclaiming Human Agency in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."

Co-authored by 13 experts from the AI Research Group of the Vatican’s Centre for Digital Culture, the book explores what the age of AI means for human agency.

Leaders working to put love into action. ❤️

Our newest cohort of Social Innovator Fellows recently joined us on campus to kick off their time with the Institute. The fellowship offers nonprofit leaders guidance and resources to advance a project related to applied ethics and the "love of strangers" in their own fields.

The group spent four days connecting, reflecting, and sharing ideas on how different ethical theories intersect with their work.

Meghan Sullivan, Founding Director of the Notre Dame Institute for Ethics and the Common Good, has been appointed as a consultant to the newly formed United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Task Force on Preserving Human Dignity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.

Sullivan is one of only three lay consultants providing support to the task force.

👏 Congratulations to our inaugural cohort of On Purpose colleges and universities!

The Institute has selected five higher ed institutions to pioneer our “On Purpose” immersion model.

Each school receives a $125,000 grant to invite students to explore questions of meaning, purpose, and human dignity through week-long immersions, guided by the DELTA framework's faith-informed approach to human formation in the age of artificial intelligence.
