The Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree is based on the NSU Tahlequah campus.

The program is four years of intensive doctoral-level training that prepares students to become effective members of a comprehensive health care team. The Optometric Physician has been trained to diagnose and treat a wide-variety of eye and vision problems at the primary care level. In addition, the optometrist learns to identify and assist in managing a wide-variety of non-ocular systemic and psychological conditions. By working effectively with members of many other health care disciplines, Optometric Physicians play a significant role in providing for the comprehensive needs of the patients they serve. One of only 23 optometric training schools in the nation, the Oklahoma College of Optometry at Northeastern State University prides itself on developing world-class optometrists with practical experience both in and out of the classroom, as well as post-graduate clinical residency certification and continuing optometric education. Through our partnerships with the Cherokee Nation and other area entities, our clinics see more than 40,000 patients each year.

September came and went, but the Balloon Duel chaos lives on. 🎈

Our students came together for lunch, enjoyed some delicious Roxie’s, and then things got a little… chaotic. 🎈😂

Students raced around trying to pop each other’s balloons while avoiding becoming the next one eliminated. Needless to say, things got competitive FAST!

Between the laughs, the friendly competition, and time spent together, it was a great opportunity for our students and deans to connect outside the classroom.

We’re excited to continue bringing advanced refractive surgery technology and care to the Tahlequah community!

Last week, we had the opportunity to use our brand-new laser in the NSUOCO Clinic, expanding the technology available to our patients and creating new opportunities for learning and education.

Thanks to this advanced technology, we were able to livestream the procedure from our first-floor clinic to our second-floor classroom, giving our fourth-year students and residents an incredible opportunity to learn the surgery in real time.
