This weekend, EMBA-HCM students in Professor Deslatte's EMBA 5345 - Strategic Healthcare Leadership course had the opportunity to learn from an exceptional guest speaker, Gracy Buentello, Chief Human Resources Officer at UT Tyler.

Thank you, Gracy, for sharing your expertise on the Four C Diagnostic Tool for building high-performing teams and for providing practical insights on establishing organizational values, evaluating talent, addressing performance gaps, managing difficult conversations, and sustaining team effectiveness.

The discussion was engaging, thought-provoking, and highly relevant to today's leadership challenges. One of the most rewarding moments was hearing students continue the conversation after class as they discussed leadership books, shared key takeaways, and identified strategies they could immediately apply in their organizations this week.

One of the unique strengths of Executive Education at the Soules College of Business at The University of Texas at Tyler is the opportunity to connect our executive professionals with accomplished industry leaders and talent innovators like Gracy. Her years of experience and practical perspective brought classroom concepts to life and enriched the learning experience for everyone.

Soules on Fire! What a fun weekend for our EMBA-HCM students! 🔥🌶️

After an engaging weekend in the classroom, our executive students took a break from their studies to attend the 2026 UT Tyler Chili Cook-Off, connect with the campus community, and experience one of the university’s favorite traditions. 🏆 We are proud to celebrate the The University of Texas at Tyler Soules College of Business team on their People’s Choice Award win!

With students traveling from across the region and the state of Texas to pursue their Executive MBA in Healthcare Management, opportunities like these are a wonderful way to connect beyond the classroom, build relationships, and get involved in the UT Tyler and East Texas communities. The weekend also offered a unique opportunity for leaders in healthcare to engage with university leadership, fostering relationships that support continued professional growth and collaboration.

The fun extended beyond the chili cook-off with some friendly shooting-hoops competitions among classmates that represent different health institutions from across the state. Adding to the excitement was a spirited shoot-off between Dean Krist Swimberghe and Assistant Dean Kerrie Anne Ambort Clark, showcasing the camaraderie and competitive spirit that make the EMBA-HCM experience so memorable.

Another amazing ACHE of East Texas networking and education event this week in Mount Pleasant, TX! We are proud to once again see one of our executive alumni featured on this month’s panel; Dr. William Hooks, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at CHRISTUS Health - Mount Pleasant.

It was also wonderful to see fellow alumni Kathy Richardson, System Director, IS Epic Applications at CHRISTUS Health in Tyler and Devon Churchill, Development Director at The American Heart Association in Tyler, in attendance, continuing to foster connections and engage with the healthcare leadership community. We were equally excited to see rising healthcare leaders like Caden Black, an MS1 at the UT Tyler School of Medicine, taking advantage of these opportunities to learn, connect, and grow as a future leader in healthcare.

A special thank you to the ACHE of East Texas Board for generously offering complimentary student tickets and to our Assistant Dean of Health-Related Business Programs for continually creating opportunities to connect our campus community with healthcare leaders and meaningful professional networking experiences.
