On October 28, 1904, ten University of Illinois electrical engineering students founded Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), an honor society built on three ideals: scholarship, character and attitude.

More than 120 years later, those ideals continue through Illinois ECE’s Alpha Chapter, whose students support their peers through tutoring, exam review sessions, community outreach and professional development.

At Illinois ECE, we believe that engineering education is about more than mastering technical concepts or finding the right answer. It is about learning how to think critically, solve complex problems and work with others to create meaningful solutions.

Recent ECE alum Alec Loessy shared about the benefits of going to office hours, and we couldn't agree more. In an era of constantly evolving technology, it is our responsibility to not only embrace innovation but to ensure it works to enhance (not replace) the human connections that are found at the core of learning.
