ACADEMIC EXCLUSION & DIGITAL AWARENESS PROGRAM

The Faculty council, invites all students to attend the Academic Exclusion & Digital Awareness Program hosted by SRC in collaboration with the ICT & Registrar's Office.

Under the theme, “Understanding Your Academic Journey: Know Your Options, Seek Support, Take Action Early,” the program seeks to equip students with important information about academic progression, exclusion processes, available support structures, and digital awareness.

The program will feature Program Director Musawethu Ngobe and Guest Speaker Mr Xhanti Payi, who will share valuable insights to help students make informed decisions about their academic journeys.

Time: 09:00
Venue: Sports Complex

REFRESHMENTS WILL BE SERVED.

The Faculty Council would like to urge all students who believe they are eligible to graduate to check the official graduation lists available within their respective Faculties.

Students who believe they meet the requirements for graduation but do not find their names on the published lists are encouraged to contact their Faculty council for assistance, clarification, and further guidance. Students are advised to verify their graduation status as soon as possible to avoid any delays or complications relating to graduation.

STATEMENT ON THE POSTPONEMENT OF CLASSES DUE TO CAMPUS SHUTDOWN

11 August 2026

The Faculty Council of Science and Agriculture wishes to inform all students that classes scheduled for today, 11 August 2026, at the Alice Campus have been postponed due to the ongoing campus shutdown.

The shutdown follows serious concerns regarding the deteriorating and falling infrastructure on campus, particularly within student residences. The safety and well-being of students must remain a priority, and we acknowledge the concerns raised regarding the conditions of the infrastructure and the potential risks posed to students and members of the university community.

In light of these circumstances, students are advised not to report for classes on campus tomorrow until further communication is issued regarding the resumption of academic activities.

The Faculty Council remains concerned about the impact that the current situation may have on students' academic programmes and will continue to engage with the relevant university structures to ensure that students are kept informed and that their academic interests are protected.

We call upon all students to remain calm, vigilant and attentive to official communication from the University and the Faculty Council. Further updates regarding the resumption of classes and academic activities will be communicated as soon as information becomes available.

The Faculty Council of Science and Agriculture remains committed to advocating for a safe, conducive and dignified learning environment for all students.

The Faculty of Science and Agriculture hereby informs all students that confirmation letters will be released only after the Senate (Senex) meeting scheduled to take place on 20 August 2026.

The release of these letters is subject to the outcomes and approval of the Senate (Senex) meeting. Students are therefore kindly requested to await the conclusion of this process before expecting the issuance of their confirmation letters.

The Faculty Council of Science and Agriculture extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Discipline of Computer Science within the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences for their generous donation towards our One Meal a Day Programme.

Your contribution is more than just a donation. It is a demonstration of compassion, unity, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of our students. At a time when many students continue to face food insecurity, your support will make a meaningful difference in ensuring that no student has to choose between attending class and going hungry.

We sincerely thank the staff and leadership of the Discipline of Computer Science for answering the call to support this important initiative. Your kindness reflects the values of Ubuntu and social responsibility that we strive to uphold as a university community.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our first-year students who attended and participated with great enthusiasm. Your exceptional turnout and active engagement demonstrated a genuine commitment to your academic journey. You truly pulled through, and your willingness to learn and prepare yourselves for university life made the event a remarkable success.

As the Faculty Council, we are also pleased to share that we engaged with faculty management to ensure that classes did not commence during the bootcamp. This was done to allow first-year students the opportunity to attend and benefit fully from this important academic initiative without missing scheduled lectures. We appreciate management for their cooperation and support in prioritising student development.

We trust that the knowledge shared on academic writing, Blackboard, the ethical use of AI tools, student transition and success, as well as time management and effective study skills, will serve as a strong foundation for your academic success.

The Faculty Council further extends its gratitude to the Teaching and Learning Centre, facilitators, mentors, academic staff, and everyone who contributed to making this programme a success. Your commitment to empowering our students is greatly appreciated.

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT: FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE SECURES EXTENSION OF ADDITION & CANCELLATION

Greetings to all students,

The faculty of science and agriculture is pleased to announce that the Addition & Cancellation of 2nd Semester Modules has officially been extended to Friday, 31 July 2026

We encourage all students who have not yet added or cancelled their modules to urgently contact the Faculty Council Members for assistance before the new deadline.

The Faculty Council has noted that a number of students are experiencing challenges with adding modules after cancelling previously registered modules during the addition and cancellation period.

If you are affected by this issue, we kindly request that you complete the Google Form below so that we can compile all affected cases and engage the relevant university offices for intervention.
