We are immensely proud of 2 of our own for receiving Women in Research Awards at this evening’s Stellenbosch University Research and Innovation Excellence Awards. Prof Angela Dramowski, Head of the Clinical Unit for General Paediatrics and leading vital research inneonatal and paediatric healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial stewardship, and improving infection prevention in resource-limited settings and Prof Maryke van der Zalm, from the Desmond Tutu TB Centre, a groundbreaking researcher in paediatric TB focusing on advanced diagnostic and optimizing treatment strategies for children.

Thank you for your inspiring leadership, dedication to science and tireless efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of our children.

Many congratulations as well to our colleagues from the FMHS, Dr Anusha Lachman from Psychiatry and Dr Kessendri Reddy from Microbiology for receiving Early Career Researcher Awards, and Prof Soraya Seedat from Psychiatry for receiving an Open Access award.

The Paediatric department had an early Heritage day celebration today. We were spoiled with delicious traditional dishes. Thank you to everyone who contributed by telling their stories and bringing food.

USANA had their 7th neonatology conference in Johannesburgover the weekend. Prof Bekker, Drs Satardien,Holgate and Victor were amongst those who presented their research. And a special shout-out to Dr Muneerah Satardien on winning the best poster presentation.

The annual conference of the Paediatric Neurology and Development Association of South Africa (PANDA-SA) was held in Gordon’s Bay this weekend. Stellenbosch was well represented with presentations by Prof Regan Solomons, Dr Michele Haumann and Dr Christine Kangangi.
