The University of Cape Town will welcome university leaders, researchers, policymakers and industry experts from around the world to the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World Academic Summit, held in partnership with the University of Bristol and Times Higher Education, from 29 September to 1 October 2026.

Under the theme “Knowledge, justice and futures: Universities in the age of intelligence”, the summit will bring global perspectives together to explore some of the most pressing questions facing higher education and society.

In her PhD dissertation, Nokuthula Olorunju examines what a constitutional approach to AI and the rule of law looks like. On Tuesday, 8 September, she will be part of the latest group of graduates to receive their degrees when she walks across the stage in the Sarah Baartman Hall with her red graduation gown and doctoral tam.

Nokuthula’s research interests also include the judiciary, data protection and privacy, gender rights and equality, civil society and public interest litigation.

The UCT Examinations Office has published the second provisional timetable for the year-end examination cycle scheduled for 5 to 23 November 2026. Students can view their timetable on the examinations website. Any requests for amendments must be submitted to the relevant academic department for consideration by the Head of Department (HoD). Students are advised not to make travel arrangements until the final timetable has been published on 23 September 2026.

Across the sandstone cliffs and shelters of the Maloti-Drakensberg and Stormberg mountains, San fine-line paintings have survived for generations. They portray humans and animals, but for UCT PhD graduate Dawn Green, they are far more than remnants of the past.

Dawn, who will graduate with a PhD in Archaeology on 8 September, argues that the paintings themselves are persons, embedded in relationships with humans, animals, plants, weather, earth, spirit, celestials, rock faces and mountains.
